The US government’s October ban on exports of advanced semiconductors and related equipment to China raised the ante. President Xi responded at the Communist Party congress by vowing to “resolutely win the battle in key core technologies.” At stake is nothing less than global superiority in artificial intelligence, quantum computing and next-generation weaponry. And hanging in = the balance is the future of Taiwan. Is the world ready for the endgame? Bloomberg Erik Schatzker moderates a panel with Ulrike Hoffmann-Burchardi, Senior Portfolio Manager and Managing Director, Tudor Investment Corporation, Marko Papic, Partner and Chief Strategist, Clocktower Group, Gary Rieschel, Founding Managing Partner, Qiming Venture Partners and Kendra Schaefer, Global Director of Tech Policy Research, Trivium China at the 2022 Bloomberg New Economy Forum in Singapore.

Would have been nice if they had oh I don't know someone in the semiconductor industry or with deep knowledge of chips to be on the panel. This was like my aunts and uncles talking about chips lots of speculation very little actual knowledge

You definitely need a semi expert 1. Germany does produce semiconductors and Zeiss makes the optics for ASML ‘s high tech equipment and Ukrainians are using modern tech such as Elon’s Stargate Internet connections and USA satellite survience plus the drones

Defining "Technology" as advanced semiconductor chips is like defining cars a by there tires. a narrow but critical part to which there are many alternatives. Beauwold technology of the 1990s levraged off the shelf PCs networked and controlled by opensource linux to build systems that rivaled state of the art supercomputers. What Bloomburg will most likely miss because of their conventional legacy focus in the role of (Borderlless) opensource technologies and the emergence of Bitcoin as an opensource borderless currency. If BRICS adopted Bitcoin instead of Gold as a backing to their currency, they would sacrifice a currency they could control but instantly mitigate the USD monopoly.

Great discussion re: a complex topic, and highlights many of 'yuge' geopolitical issues as well as the tech ones. And even if they may not always make the 'correct' decisions, am so relieved that we have experienced leaders in DC now, who at least appreciate some of these complex choices, instead of a bunch of clueless ideologues who claim to "know more than all the generals".

In my opinion China are years ahead of the most country’s, if we talk about technology and science. We cant like the government guides or rules, but they are one of the most powerful citizens, on the world.

Once you talk about geopolitics and technology only within your western circle, then it is nonsense. Nowadays China is the best player ever in the world.

My thoughts exactly, you have Americans discussing China in its absence.... to e it just goes to the dominance or threat that China has over US or the west is just battling to come to terms with the fact that they are no longer leading generally.

Decoupling China is healthy even though it seems hard to go through for a period of time. Like when you have a tumor, you need to undergo surgery.
