Interesting contempo perspective on discounted cash flowing your way to pricing and valuations of a thing. What are people willing to pay, which gets very volatile when an economy embraces change and disruption, vs. a slowbro, American 1950s version of rational "common sense" continuity. Borrowing from Biology-- when a "cropper species" is introduced into an industry, leading to consolidations and windfall profits, if not profiteering, what happens to the price of land next to the best Ski mountain with the highest peak in X-land? Massive concentrations of wealth with lottery style returns, widely perceived perverse incentives and unjust rewards lead to values and prices based on the golden rule-- the new changing price things set by the guy with the gold, making all the new rules, in his flip flops, hoodie, and tricked out SAV. Civilizations becomes an Amusement park with more comedy and more tragedy than one can bare. As I'd imagine Fibonacci saying to Freud, "it would appear that 'man's discomfort in civilization' has gone parabolic, Sig". It's one thing to say, "well, okay all you Jedi CFA candidates from Cambridge to Jedda, if you want to good job counting these beans for Wall Street, you can't beat them, so just join them-- price discovery is the market price of everything-- the cynic's refrain-- the SPX every morning, with all the momentum set by mood, stories, private gains and public losses". It's another thing to say the replacement value of a thing-- the discount you should pay to a company's NAV with no catalyst or broad market decline in sight, or say an offshore oil rig in the ocean that cost $89 million to build 10 years ago, is just $400 dollar, because nobody wants to foot the bill with $40 dollar/barrel oil right now. Buffet got rich when he bought things, not when he sold.

All fiat currencies are in some sense derivatives of the dollar. Argentinian stock market goes up significantly higher every year doesn't mean their corporations are healthy on a global scale. The cash-flows and the valuation needs to be done in dollar because it is the reserve currency.
