Honestly, Butters dissociating and becoming Victor Chaos in the dark future was probably the healthiest thing he could have done.

@M.g163005 ай бұрын
He became a master people manipulator and basically threw away his entire past, that isn’t a healthy thing to do. Realising how bad your past was, coming to terms with it, and resolving to make one’s life better is the best thing to do. Post COVID butters is not a healthy or good thing, he basically becomes a less obnoxious, arrogant and annoying Cartman which is TERRIFYING, because those traits of Cartman are what normally end up backfiring on him and foiling his insane, twisted and self centred plans, and so a person without these traits is basically a master class manipulator who ruins others lives for their own benefit, and do so with enough finesse and charisma that by the time the duped people realise they have been tricked, it’s already too late.

Butters showed me that i do in fact have maternal instincts because they kick in when i watch him get bullied or traumatized or hurt and what not and it actually makes me so sad and all I want is to just hug and protect him. I’ve never really felt so strongly for a tv show character before so i guess that just shows how amazingly written the characters actually are.

Hearing _Butters_ of all people say he thought of himself as a “twerpy little loser” who was unloved really hit hard the first time I watched that special. He seems like such an innocent and loving character that hearing him say that felt so… awful. Even more awful than a lot of the things the others say on a weekly basis. It really felt up there with Stan being depressed in “You’re Getting Old”.

to be fair.. if a kid looks unbothered by a traumatic event, the chance of it manifesting itself as a trauma later on in life is actually still there.. kids deal with trauma differently than adults, and the big thing about trauma is how it affects someone later in life rather than how it affects them during the event.. so he could still be traumatized in the given examples..

I absolutely love Butters. He feels like a son to me. I've never wanted to hug a fictional character so badly. You'd be surprised how many people I've come across who actually deeply hate Butters and think he's more evil than Cartman somehow, but they seem to be a vocal minority.

It's probably worth mentioning that seeing a child with a ninja star in his eye wasn't the thing that people freaked out about, the massive upheaval at the end of that episode was Cartman streaking because he was pretending to be invisible, it feels like having your severe injury brushed aside like that would be pretty traumatic

With that comparison to Kenny at the beginning, I realised how fitting it was the boys made butters their replacement to Kenny after his death. The two kind of parallel each other in how their suffering is used as a running gag. Where Kenny’s running suffering came from his physical deaths, Butters’s comes from the more mental traumas (and occasional physical traumas). As a certain Indiana Jones violator would say: it’s like poetry, they rhyme…

2:00 i feel we should still talk about those times when Butters was unaware of what was really happening, because i think not only would someone develop some major psychological issues from their known traumas, but would probably figure it out later in life, compounding the mental issues. i'd watch that deep dive.

Something I learned from my childhood trauma is that if the people around me had responded to my need for care right away instead of ignoring it and pretending it didn’t exist so it’d go away, it might not have been so crippling in adulthood. The thing that made me believe Butters was truly one of the most likeable South Park Characters was recently watching RTGame play the South Park games. He had seen exactly one episode prior, one that didn’t include butters, who happens to be the first character you meet in the stick of truth. I have watched every single person who played that game adore butters as a companion, and adore him more as professor chaos…and seeing the same thing happen to someone who barely knew the names enough to tell who was who once the superhero stuff started, made me so happy. He’s so endearing and the most normal kid out of the lot. He wants to be involved, has a moral compass that can easily be overrun because he wants to be involved, and just wants friends like any normal kid. He doesn’t swear like the others do, he plays normally when antics aren’t involved, and he’s usually just a well meaning little guy. I genuinely hate when he gets mistreated, and I want an episode where he actually gets what he deserves…not to be grounded and traumatised and assaulted. And I’ll be damned if “Loo Loo Loo, I’ve got some apples, Loo Loo Loo, you’ve got some too” doesn’t get stuck in my head from time to time and make me smile.

Butters' infamous tap-dancing accident is a reference to Final Destination and the early 2000s horror movie Ghost Ship (a couple people were sliced in half by a falling/snapped cable, in reference to Ghost Ship's opening prologue where an entire dance room full of guests were massacred by a steel wire trap slicing them in half by the waist up save for Emily Browning's character who was too short and missed the wire).
