What a great review. I agree with you that is a unique song for g/blorg both musically and in its lyrical directness. I think it stands out because there is no real opponent or obstacle that is spoken about, it's instead directly about the artist himself which im not sure is done in any other g/blorg songs. What I also like about the song is that Mickey is speaking from the perspective of someone at the top of the game and who has been there for awhile. There's no rags to riches theme to be sung about, he's just rich and has been for awhile just like his irl contemporary. His money means nothing to him, the drugs have taken him and he realizes it, and love is forever elusive to him both by his own doing and his posistion career wise. There's no call for help here, he is intimately aware of his faults and the trappings of the life style he lives and accepts it in all its reality. In a way the song title, "mousetrap" is both an expression of the musical style and a direct interpretation of Mickey's portrayed life. Trapped. Maybe going a bit deep on my part reading into a parody song but I cant help but be impressed by how complex the song truly is.

This doesn't make the song complex, it's an extremely simple song that is made "complex" by a real world counterpart that he did not develop. The only reason ANY of this hits is because Mickey Mouse is a cultural icon and has a century of impact. These types of songs exist by the truckloads but nobody cares until you slap somebody else's creation on top of it.

I was just pointing out that it was somewhat lyrically intelligent when it came to Mickey as his character and not the usual drill rap as most of the other parody songs.

It's actually a reference to Neil Armstrong being the first man on the moon as well, by wrapping it up with astronaut. Not to mention the references being commentary for Disney (and Mickey by extension) being a pioneer in the entertainment industry but having come under fire/scrutiny in recent years. It's actually a pretty deep line that's played off like just a simple reference.

So, Kingdom Hearts fan here: While Mickey does usually appear in his more contemporary look in the games, there is a world in KH2 based on Steamboat Willie and the older, black and white Mickey Mouse cartoons, so he does technically appear in Kingdom Hearts.

Another refrence with "A kingdom for a heart" is its a play on a William Shakespeares play called the tragedy of Richard the third. At the end of the play king richard says: a horse, my kingdom for a horse. Where king richard was willing to give everything up that was his most valuable possession (his kingdom) for his own survival (the horse). But with mickey saying a Kingdom for a heart, hes talking about mini wanting him to get clean but hes not willing to. It could also refrence the disney kingdom as such.

You were right to think there was something to that line about the astronaut but you were just a touch late. In medicine, a lancet is a tiny needle used to poke holes in your finger to measure blood sugar, so if we were to shorten this to lance and say arm after it, he's saying he lances his arm, or puts a needle in it. Its another drug reference.
