Great area test piece this was came 8th/12 with Newhall in Midland Area, band were pleased as first time back in Championship Section

I remember playing this at the Cardiff CIA in 1996 and back then didn’t really think much of the piece musically. Listening to it today I realise what a great piece of real music it is. Overtones of Gershwin, Bernstein and some great old MGM’esque epics are very apparent to me now. I never looked and read it as a listenable piece at the time but I was very wrong. There’s a vast difference between playing a test piece for competition and actually listening to it for enjoyment. I really think this is a very underrated masterpiece. Im glad I came across it again.
