Blount-Straight Mountains Coal Mines Sites Remains

A visit to two historic coal mines sites that were located along the Blount and Straight Mountain Ranges that lie northeast of Birmingham, Alabama. These coal mines and others that were located along this range were exclusively served by the Louisville & Nashville Railroad's Birmingham Mineral Railroad Division operating from Birmingham to Gadsden, Alabama.

There are some rail remnants and what may be a tipple foundation along side Owls Hollow Road coming north out of Gadsden. The State operates a shooting range on Owls Hollow Road and there is a massive concrete foundation just north of the range right on the side of the road. have you ever explored that area?
