In the 60's , when I was a kid, I already knew that you cannot detonate dynamite shooting at it . That was Mr Nobel great invention.

It can be, if the dynamite is "sweating" its nitroglycerin sufficiently. It's supposed to be a hot desert, which makes it possible that it could be sweating enough nitro that the impact of a rifle round could detonate it. It's unlikely, but not impossible.

@@leestamm3187 Even fresh dynamite is sensitive enough to explode from being shot. It's just safe enough not to explode if you accidentally drop it but not as insensitive as TNT or RDX.

As a videographer, no director wants the main talent to endanger themselves; ( Tom Cruise being the exception! )...too expensive to replace...so a double is used, (3.21 ). The clue is the cutting; there be significant time between shots.... and the camera is same height, so...if the cameraman is safe, so is Shirley. However, this is a really realistic scene and the viewer worries for Sister Sara...spot on production values!..3 52..here, Shirley is evidently showing real distress...that's superb acting.......or real life terror!

I would have liked the movie even more, if they picked another actress instead of Shirley MacLaine. Just can't stand her. And as Clint once very diplomatically said in an interview, he did not get along with her too well.
