We tear down our turbo 125cc go kart motor to see what went wrong when it failed on the dyno.

@itsmikelake Hi love the vids ❤ the kàrt looks mint not sure if anyone has suggested this yet. So my suggestion is do away with the electric start (I know it's not ideal but easy to get around) the reason behind this is so you can install an inner rotor kit this allows the engine to free rev up to 14000 rpm with stock flywheel and ignition the 125cc motors make 9.5kw @9500 rpm (max the stock flywheel will allow it to rev) if you do an inner rotor kit port the head and intake runner do valves and timing I like the double head gasket idea not sure if you will have trouble with chain length thought I guarantee if you do the inner rotor kit you will be surprised the gain. Just beware some kits are hit and miss with tolerances. Hope you look into it keep up the great work ❤

Upgrade the valve springs to something 3 to 4 times as strong(valves too if you can). I bet the valves were floating at high rpm and the piston hit the intake valve. At least these engines are cheap and very easy to work on. Good luck with the next iteration!

I doubt running lean would do that, would burn a hole in the piston first. My guess is valve float, I'd get upgraded valves and springs on the next build. Also should get a 160cc. Same dimensions and mounting points I'm pretty sure

@Mamay-zb7vb
@Mamay-zb7vb 7 күн бұрын
You can buy a big valve head and 60mm cylinder block for that engine, but you need to machined or port the crack case to fit the block. Then manually port the intake manifold to match the flow needed for the big valve head. Add turbulence when you port the intake to have maximum air and gas mixture.

if you don't want problems,just get one of those takegawa superhead lol.Btw,thr problem might be from lack of oil,and also the valve clearance.I have tge same engine and i noticed that this one doesn't rev as much as it should.

You can bought a new head for that motor, you can search for big valve head set, and I suggest to use a racing valve spring for that since that motor was revving high. If you bought a big valve head you can port the inside of intake and exhaust for much better performance.

Make sure to check the rod play. It could have toasted the rod bearing, alowing the piston to reach TDC sooner due to the inertia of the piston & rod, also allowing the piston to linger at TDC for a bit before the crank rotation took up the slop in the bearing, thus pulling the piston back down.. resulting in similar interference from the valves as a loose timing chain.

the good thing about these motors is that I'm pretty sure that they use the same gearbox from bigger engines so this one can take the torque, also they are straight-cut gears so they are tough also, throw some stiffer springs on that, usually they are flimsy (it has the same issue that those predator 212s)

I would love to see where the Valve Failed, I'm picking it where it is machined for the Keeper to lock in. I am hoping the conrod is still straight and salvageable. but just like a race car, make sure you thoroughly flush out everything the oil goes through, as the gearbox and clutch is bathed in engine oil. and we all know that guy who forgot to replace the oil cooler after blowing an engine and had the new engine die straight away because of the bit's that were trapped in the cooler

Should be because of valve float and valve mightve crashed into the piston. You probably need stiffer valve springs. Instead of new cam you can use rocker arms to adjust the valve opening. Like 1:1.2 rocker arms should push and open the valves more. Piston, crank and the rod might come as a weak points when upgrading aswell. Its better for your wallet to upgrade them earlier instead of breaking everything and buying the upgraded parts again and again.

BTW, your videos being my inspiration, im building my youngest son's old mini quad into a gigantic r/c drift car. Gonna have the body 3d printed by my little brother and im putting my sons old kx65 engine in it. The thing is gonna be a menace to society.
