I think that KTM is good to go- other than spark. That gap in the reeds will cause poor throttle response but shouldn't affect its compression or whether it runs or not.

You need a compression tester it’ll give u an exact amount of compression. I expect 120 psi for any two stroke I be. I think u will find it very useful.

Love ur enthusiasm. My advice to u tho is to get yourself a compression tester. It will help you no end. You can narrow down problems so much easier just by taking out the spark plug screwing it in an kicking the bike over. Anything over 100psi should start but should be higher. While doing that check spark by putting plug in the ht lead boot an rest it on engine. Metal part touching engine for ground. If u got compression an spark then its usually a carb clean. On 2 strokes anyway. Good luck to you tho.

Clean the carb if the reeds don’t fix it. He could’ve blown it up and let it sit for a while before he rebuilt it. It doesn’t look like that piston has ever been ran before. You never know. There’s a good chance those reeds could be the culprit though.

Using 2 base gaskets is common practice. The measurement between the top of the piston and the top of the cylinder at TDC should be .010 mm. You use whatever combination of base gaskets you need to use to get that measurement.

Take out the reed place on top of an old credit card or something similar cut out the shape of the the reed and screw into reed. If it starts it's your reeds if not atleast you no. Don't run the bike for long as card will snap and you don't want it breaking inside engine.

Keep the crf450 2018. One of the most powerful bikes on the market. If I had to chose between the 125s. It’ll be the Yamaha all day long. I had a brand new 250sx 2018 and a yz250 2018. The Yamaha was miles better in every department. The ktm handled shit. Was unstable. The yz was a much nicer bike all round.
