I struggle with when I straighten my hair from it getting all gross by day 2. So many stylist and curly hair specialist seem to promote more products and gobs of it. I noticed using a tiny amount of curl cream my curls actually came out more spiral instead of waves with some random loose curls... and ONLY using leave in conditioner, curl cream and oil ONLY on the ends... I didn't realize my hair was actually pretty. 😳

It comes home beautiful from the salon but after the first wash, it's never the same... But thanks to tour guidance i have made choices to try new simple techniques (like trying a blow dry brush for beginners) , followed rules and tips, and even though i am not a pro at all yet, my hair turned out decent (like a salon) and has stayed nice for the past 3-4 days for other styles just as you have suggested. Thank you for giving us who don't know hair, knowledge and hope that we can be sexy beautiful too.❤

Another question: my stylist mentioned to me that no matter what high-end brand of heat protectant he used (e.g. Balmain, Davines, etc.), it would always dry out clients’ hair with continuous use. His clients reported the same as they used these products at home. That’s why he switched to only using a few leave-in conditioners that have heat protection in them. Curious if anyone had a similar experience, and if Chris could comment on it. Thanks 🙏

@yvonnelee439611 ай бұрын
Happy to dispell this myth. Not all hairdressers are created equal and more than I care to admit, many of them speak from self contrived knowledge instead of an acquired knowledge from a reputable form of education. The bad part is that most clients know very little in comparison to their stylist about their hair so they trust everything they tell them; as well you should be able to trust the person caring for your hair. Nevertheless, for many reasons, people are comfortable with the just having knowledge they received from hair school and or that they receive from a ,self serving, product manufacturer that teaches them just enough to make them arrogant and slaves to their product but not truly what they need to know to make them competent. So they don’t seek continuing education get the science and the why of their craft to fuel and maintain them throughout their career. As technological advances continue to widen our understanding we have to keep a learning attitude so that we can continue to grow. That reigns true for life and for every industry under the sun.

I just love you. I’m a black woman with European ancestry. What you teach make sense for people like me too thank you. Up until today my wash day routine was to wash, put leave in conditioner and braid. I would let my hair air dry. Today I decided to sit under the dryer for a hour on low heat because air drying takes too long. 1am my hair is still damp. Today after I dryed my hair it’s still slightly damp. Do I need a heat protector? Yes I know that I need to get some rinse out conditioner too. It’s on my list. Thank for listening.

It’s nice to know that my instincts were correct. I never thought of it along the lines of, “it has a lot of other benefits so heat protection may not actually be the best”, but I was coming from a space of incredulity, it just seemed too good to be true. I thought I was just being extra and dramatic about wanting to purchase a heat protection product on its own ON TOP of my other styling product that claims to offer heat protection, but I’m glad to learn that my skepticism wasn’t unfounded

I have yet to find a stylist that doesn’t try to ruin my hair. The number of people that put a flat iron on my very fine, bone straight hair while it is dry, adding nothing to it (and another did it after he bleached it 😤) is ridiculous. Thank you for this. I hate when stylists tell me to just buy things that claim xyz. This stuff isn't regulated and they can claim anything. I have found good blow dry creams but struggle with protectants for flat ironing. I will try the Kenra. I'm also very skeptical about the amounts needed. I know with sunscreen, the SPF tests are so subjective and we tend to need to apply a lot more sunscreen than folks typically apply. I can imagine that heat protectants are similar and you probably need a lot more to get the claimed effect.

I appreciate your channel a lot, however, it’s really not targeted toward curly hair and I find myself amiss with all these techniques that wouldn’t work for my fine curly/wavy hair. Sometimes I use a 1/2 inch curling iron to pump up the definition, volume & longevity as it makes the curls last much longer. One example would be spraying & brushing wouldn’t work on my hair. I’m gonna keep trying to watch videos but professional tips for naturally curly are rare to find!

So much good information in here. I do have some questions. What is the difference between blow dry cream and blow dry spray? I have a number of blow dry sprays and I’ve never even seen a blow dry cream. I use a smoothing balm on my hair before I blow dry it but after I use my blow dryer heat protectant spray. I think I’m doing that wrong. So, as I understand from watching several of your videos, it goes like this, after washing and conditioning: first, put in leaving conditioner, then put in your blow dry cream or spray. If you use a flat iron, say the next day, do you reapply heat protectant spray?

I have never dyed my hair; I always wash, brush, and air dry down about once or twice a week and trow it up in a braid. i tried getting a trim every three months but i am always told i dont have enough dead ends but they will cut my hair if i want. My hair is ridiculously thick and has a bit of frizz to it so i have been looking to find a way to keep my hair looking kept all day. i should tell you that my hair is at about my waist and i am told that its healthy from root to tip. My hope is just that i can wear my hair down without it looking unkept. I can usually keep it up but while im at a desk, it gets heavy and hurts my neck and upper back. wearing it down is definitely easier while sitting for long periods of time.

@@sariss9 Hey Sara 🥰! ☺️

Is it necessary to use a blow dry spray and thermal styling spray? Or is one enough, if so which one? For example, Kenra Platinum Blow-Dry Spray and the Kenra Thermal Styling Spray 19.
@ellieem47167 ай бұрын
I know it's a year later, but I remember wondering this last year when I saw this and again now. They have different "thermal" sprays and I have no idea if one is better than the other 🤷♂ Although according to the video, the blow dry spray should probably be used like the blow dry creams he talked about - when you're blow drying your hair. And the thermal sprays would be for hot tools like irons.

Just want to say thank you from the ❤ for all the information you're sharing. I have very thin hair and made all the mistakes one can possibly make.. As a teenager that was no problem, my hair looked always great. But now at the age of 30 the damage was undeniable. I was told to cut my hair every three months to get back to normal, but nothing changed. Until I found your channel. After 3 only three months my hair is "recovering". I got the Redken 22 (btw really hard to find it online when you live in Germany) but I have to find the courage to use heat again and to trust the product. All the things you explained worked out, let's see if I manage to use the iron safely (for the first time ever). Thanks Chris! A lot!

@@lidiamorelli8201 the online shop is called Ubuy. It is much more expensive there shipping included and I had to pay the taxes, too. Not convenient but I wanted to try that product.

Hi! I just discovered you and love your channel. I've already watched four of your videos in a row and have learned a lot. I do have a question for you: If I do both, blow drying and afterwards the flat iron (trust me, I need to do both to have decent looking hair), when should I apply the heat protectant? Is it before blow drying, before the flat iron, or both? Thank you in advance for your reply.
@SweetStuffOnMonarchLane Жыл бұрын
They're both heat protectants. The Redkin Big Blowout is for blow drying, which isn't as hot, and the Redkin Hotsets 22 is for use when using any kind of curling iron, flat iron, hot rollers, etc. because they get a LOT hotter. So if you do both things, use both products... the Big Blowout before drying, and the Hotsets before hot irons.

I love this guy! I love him💕I love him💕I love him!! 💕 I’m a brunette with long hair & I can go one week without washing my hair so I only like to style it once a week. Just like he said, I stopped using hair protectors because I hated the over crunchy feeling of hair protectants. I just got my haircut and colored and my hairstylist told me that my hair was in bad shape so I googled it and found the Professor!! I did buy the Redken frizz dismiss already, but I’m returning the other products so I can go with his recommendations. I absolutely love this guy and I’m going to watch some of his other videos now because I want to have healthy Hair. Happy Happy Happy!!! And he explains things in a simple format that I can understand. Super helpful!! 🎉

The practical examples you make have me laugh so hard (in a good way🤣): the part-time surgeon, the half cooked hamburger, the "hungry person" on the first date, the high school sweetheart... all this applied to hair...hilarious. thanks Chris

Do you have an alternative to Redken for fine hair? Redken tests on animals unnecessarily
@yanabanana5086 Жыл бұрын
Good point ❤ I use Italian brand Lisap. It's not heavy for fine hair and by EU laws they can't test on animals. So I really hope they don't ❤

ok I know I am a little late to the party. BUUUUT I've watched a couple of your videos and took the plunge on heat protecting, drying, curling etc. MY HAIR IS STILL CURLY after 4 days and hasn't really been as damaged as it usually would have been after me curling it! Never have I had it look like this for so long. Every day just a little bit looser so it has become large waves. I love it and thank you SO much for the videos and information.

I've read many places that one should allow the heat protection product to dry completely before using the curling iron, otherwise it will badly burn & damage one's hair. Do you think that's true? Can one use the curling iron when one's hair is still damp from the heat protection product? Thank you for all the great information you provide us all!

If you’re a black woman with low porosity hair you may want to use a blow dry spray. Creams are often too heavy for our hair.
