Gosh, that brings back memories. My brother and I used to do this when we were in high school 45 yrs ago. I had a 70 Charger and he had a 71 Cougar. We sprayed the water right on the tires and did burnouts. When I got older, I used to dump Rain-x right in the washer bottle, along with washer fluid, so everytime I used it, it applied Rain-x to my front window of my car. Love it!

Factory option in cars from the 60’s and early 70’s. Was for snow melt fluid. People didn’t use it to melt snow in Hawaii. My friends 69 Impala 427 SS had it.

I did this on everything back in the 90's, best nozzles to use are old metal windshield washer sprayers out of a square body Chevy truck or anything that had the metal piping, they spray a fan pattern and don't gum up as bad as plastic stuff. For burnouts and just having fun, in front of the tire is ok. If you're serious, and use traction compound,I found it best to spray behind and roll back into it, don't want something getting under your tires on a pass. Only put in as much as you think you'll use that night, afterwards run some alcohol through the system, it helps to keep it from gumming up.

You can also use MEK to tune your mixture to the outside temp, it can be used to clean the system as well.

There's usually a few different spray nozzles in stock at the local parts store that may work a little better especially if you slightly modify them to change the spray pattern.

I was thinking the same thing when I watched you trying to get the nozzles to work, just use an open hose and you won't need to hold the button in for so long to get your puddle.@@BREW2LFOXBODY

I did this when I was younger, to spray water/alcohol to cool my intercooler on my factory VW 1.8 turbo. The water will drip until it runs out because there's no check valve in line for the supply hose. Put a check valve down the line towards your nozzle and it won't bleed your tank dry. If you don't you'll get sick of a goopy puddle everywhere that you park your car.

I’ve seen something like this setup for local car show burnout cars. Spray fluid once the tires are spinning to add to the Smokey effect.

Over the years I've asked numerous drag racers why they don't do this. They all gave pretty much te same answer that the nozzles clog up too often. I think it would be a great way to cut down on the amount of traction compound used and to put it exactly where it is needed. I bet that with the right sized pump and nozzle, it can be made to work.

Personally I probably wouldn't want it in front of the tires. Just for peace of mind. The slim possibility of a malfunction. Siphon, wire short etc. I'd feel better spraying behind the tire. And then backing into the prep. But regardless, awesome idea.

We discovered that mounting it above the leading edge of the tire works. Spraying down ONTO the tire. So you don't have to worry about the puddle location or size. Keep spraying while she's spinning.👍. We also did this as engine water injection to stop pinging by using a vacuum switch. You know like running 11/1 on the new crappy gas in late 70s. BTW 13 volts will spray harder than 11v.

Nozzle: slightly flatten a copper tube. Put 2-3-4 pieces of .030 safety wires fanned out into it then tap the tube flat, pull out the wires. Instant spray nozzle. Mount with an adel clamp. Works on carbs for water injection too. Some 60s cars had windshield spray nozzles with 2 outlets.😅
