Great video Phill ! Well made , edited,, the whole thing , excellent. As a fan of dazed and confused I've been thinking about picking up slacker but criterion blind buys can be hit or miss so l'll wait. Picked up maxxxine . Great 80s slasher feel to it . Enjoy the infernal affairs set and happy birthday.

@@vaha427 thank you 🙏🏼 I like how this video came out. Maxxxine is on my wish list at the moment so hoping the Christmas gods might fill that gap for me (my wife requests a list from me because she has no idea which movies I’d like). Infernal affairs is set to one side ready for viewing when I get a little time, but… I’m sure I’m with other movie fans and collectors that are always trying to get on top of their to be watched pile !

Lone Star is a great film, last time I saw it was in the cinema on original release. When I saw the Criterion blu ray appear was an instant purchase and wasn't disappointed.
@PhillwithadoubleLАй бұрын
@@madvinyl75 man… now I’m considering if I need to go back and grab it… or just order online. I can’t go back to the criterion sale another time can I ?! It has been on my mind since doing the video to be honest. I was away with the family this weekend and nipped into a HMV to grab it… they didn’t have it. Been going back and forth about picking it up.
@SAMTYLER1974Ай бұрын
Don’t think I’ve bought a film, let alone anything really, from an actual shop in years as I’m unfortunately not close to an HMV and don’t drive so the stress of getting there is took much compared to buying online when I know how long it’ll take and if it’s in stock. Sad in a way as there was a time when I popped by the local shops virtually every weekday on the way to work to pick up the latest CD or DVD! But, alas, most of those shops are now charity shops, coffee shops or, in one case, a bloody cat cafe and in all honesty if I just wanted a cuppa and to look at some cats I’d bite my tongue and pop round my neighbours! As for Criterion I took a little dive into the recent sale and added to the collection with 3 Jarmusch titles (Mystery Train, Night on Earth and Dead Man) and decided to get round to picking up Happiness which is quite simply a film everyone should rightfully own … well, maybe not everyone. So, that’ll be rewatched this week after which, no doubt, I’ll not want a tuna sandwich for a good few years …
@PhillwithadoubleLАй бұрын
@@SAMTYLER1974 in quite lucky in a way that I still have access to HMV / Fopp and CEX close to where I work. It still obviously takes the time to get there but it’s nice to still be able to visit every now and again. My local home town used to have around 4 or 5 places I could get to that sold physical media. Now, zero. As you say, replaced by charity shops.. but instead of cafes we get loads of Turkish Barbers ! With the criterion sale I’ve ordered Princess Bride and Devils Backbone from Barnes & Noble and from the UK sales I went with Breakfast Club / Risky Business and Okja

I tried to support my local HMV but they closed the store due to 'Local cost / environment issues' so even when you support them its a gamble if they go.
@PhillwithadoubleLАй бұрын
@@SecretOfMonkeyIsland784 it’s slightly gutting that there are less and less options on the high street. Literally HMV / CEX and not much in between now. There’s nowhere in my local village that sells physical media now. There used to be 4 or 5 places I could visit to browse… shopping ain’t what it used to be. @PhillwithadoubleLАй бұрын
@@MattVs_Movies I’ll like to try and support the high street where possible. Use it or lose it in the back of my mind. Couple of times recently though, internet won. I do intend to have a proper shop around town again at some point soon. One that’s less time pressured and more about the joy of wandering round stores with friends chatting movies and nonsense !

@blujustin4175Ай бұрын
@@MattVs_Movies Sadly, of course (and I'm just as guilty so I'm not having a go) it's this attitude which means they close down or at least shrink their physical media sections, much to our shouted abuse, so there's no shopping option at all for new titles.
@marymungleandmidge4080Ай бұрын
Maxxxine is pretty good, it’s very much like a Giallo and Kevin Bacon steals the show. Deadpool and Wolverine has got to be the most overhyped movie of recent times, it’s barely a movie, just a bunch of jokes about Disney, Marvel and 20th Century Fox. Pink Flamingo’s (which is in the sale) on Criterion is a great edition and is a perfect double bill with Gummo, also on Criterion (but not on the offer), but they are not for everyone, you’ve got to like alternate crazy original movies as they are as far from mainstream as you can get. The Infernal Affairs movies are great.
@PhillwithadoubleLАй бұрын
@@marymungleandmidge4080 I’d have the agree about Deadpool, while it kept me smiling throughout there just wasn’t much to it. I don’t think I’ve ever actually watched Pink Flamingos 😱 Still wondering why certain criterion titles weren’t in the offer, I assume it was to do with licensing but I’d be interested to know a little more.

I went into HMV when they were doing a 50% off sale online earlier in the year and found the store deals different to the online ones (Frustrating). I also got annoyed when they did a deal on their HMV exclusive Mad Max special edition 4K's and found out that every store stocked a different one in the trilogy and no store stocked all 3x films (Intentional decision by HMV). The store i visited had the 2nd film and i was after the 1st in the series (My favorite).
@PhillwithadoubleLАй бұрын
That sucks. Do you still go in store or tend to rely online more now ? I’ve not noticed pricing differences for anything I’ve been hunting down but have noticed stock being patchy. I felt sure they’d have the title that I wanted. Glad I got it in the end but disappointed I couldn’t support the high street store.
@SecretOfMonkeyIsland784Ай бұрын
@@PhillwithadoubleL I have had to resort to buying online now or having to do a 35min drive to the next town to visit a HMV store now my local store has closed. The store and online both do deals, but the 'Buy 1x Get 1x % off' deals often differ.
@blujustin4175Ай бұрын
@@PhillwithadoubleL I find the only advantages of instore (other than the browsing experience and something catching your eye) are making sure the item is pristine (though so many HMVs don't stock steelbooks now even this isn't a plus) and their "Buy this with any other purchase for a ridiculously cheap price" deals which are sometimes incredible... a book I liked last visit £20 or £2.99 with any other purchase! When you factor in 20% off everything you order online using the voucher code 'hack' most of the time it's a no-brainer... in fact I wonder if the recent Black Friday 20% off practically everything in store is more an attempt to attract in people who shop from home for the saving. Even if I go to a store I'll often browse and maybe discover new titles I like but then go home to order them and save 20% !

@@lordoftravel7969 I’m trying to use high street stores more but I’d say most of the time I fall back to online ordering. I want to support the high street where I can but at times (like this time) it kinda feels deflating and wasted efforts. Online saved the day in this instance.
