Blue And Expo Line Overload

When Metro added more service to the Blue and Expo Line to help with the overcrowding, passengers soon started to mention that trains on both lines are taking longer to get to Downtown Los Angeles. I decided to head back to Flower Junction to film the light rail traffic. I quickly found out how heavy the lines gets during rush hour as trains are very close to one another. As always sorry for the shakiness and the tilt in some parts of the film. Enjoy

They added a lot of trains but sometimes it slows it down due to train traffic and they need to keep a safe distance between each other

I thought you did a very nice job of capturing LA light rail service! We don't have light rail here in NYC but it would be nice to serve communities that are often overlooked and subway routes that that terminate too short, in my opinion, leaving areas out of reach and depending on buses! Not sure how New Yorkers would take to grade level running on 'their' streets but I think it would ease congestion by extending the subway routes! I just love the whole urban rail scene! We do have light rail in Jersey and some communities in upstate New York! There are or were plans for a light rail that would run from Queens into Brooklyn along the East River but so far, nothing has materialized!

Well I can’t see how close together the trains really are when you cut the video between each train… You have to leave the camera rolling, even when there’s no trains, to give the viewers a sense, in real time, of how close together the trains are. If you cut the video between each train, there’s no way to see how close together the trains really are.

they do sound 'weird' but they definitely get your attention and basically, that's the whole idea! You can't miss or mistake that sound!

Why are they moving so slowly? I watched some of the cab view rides of the gold and the blue line and the trains CRAWL, even through tunnels and elevated sections. It makes me rethink my support for light rail.

might be something to do with control requiring the slower speeds for some reason. I know I've been on trip within the same day where the occasional trip will have an extended slowdown because of signaling.

Also because of train traffic as seen so many trains are close together they need to travel at a slower rate. During this time metro added a lot of trains to manage overcrowding since these lines are heavily used

Let's hope that they don't get treatment that the older cars get. In honesty, I feel that Metro should have given the older Ansaldo Breda trains from the Gold Line to the Blue line and give all of the Kinkisharyo trains to Gold and Expo lines.

I am pretty sure that most system operators would say the same thing. I have been commuting on Metro Rail for over 20 years I can tell from my own experience that the Blue Line often carries some of the worst crime of most of the Metro Rail System. On the Gold Line, you don't see the same issues as the Blue line because of the people that ride that particular line. It wasn't too long ago where a lot of commuters once saw people, who probably didn't pay the fare, went on to rip off the fabric lining of the seats. So am I justified in saying that they should have gotten the older AnsaldoBreda trains? Yes, because of the rampant vandalism that goes on in that line.

@@Lucrativecris when it was open in 1991, they did not intend for two lines to run at this station. A lot of the issues will be relieved when the new Blue line connects to Pasadena and the new Expo line connects to East LA

That's the operator tapping on the horn to warn those close to the track that the train is coming.
