That's what you call America's finest working together. Way to go Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds. You guys rock. I'm sure this took a lot of planning to pull this off, but you guys made it look easy, but I'm sure it wasn't. I've always enjoyed watching you all in Belle Chasse at NASJRB New Orleans and I'm looking forward to seeing all of you return in the future. I may even make a trip out to Pensacola which is only about 3-4 hours from my house.

@13:00 Amazing how much bigger the super hornet is over the f-16. Also, look how those F-16s are bouncing all over while the F-18s are rock solid. Blue Angels Rock!
@majobis3 жыл бұрын
I was going to say the same thing about the Super Hornets being a lot bigger than the F16's Now just add up all the thrust horsepower in the air at that time with total of almost 500,000 pounds of thrust in the air at that time.
@amaterasulotus97273 жыл бұрын
Thinks it’s due to the fact that f-16s are aerodynamically designed to not be perfectly aerodynamic because it apparently helps with the maneuverability
@ILSRWY43 жыл бұрын
@@amaterasulotus9727 That's exactly it. The more unstable an aircraft is the easier it is to control it about all 3 axis. In other words its easier to move it from equilibrium making it more maneuverable. The more stable it is, the harder it is to move from equilibrium. However. in the case of these jets that is not all entirely true... because these jets have sophisticated automatic flight control systems, Fly by wire, and stability augmentation. So they really shouldn't be bouncing around "that much" I'm suspecting that F-16s are a cleaner aircraft than the F-18. The Hornets are larger, create larger wakes, have twin canted tails, creates more turbulence (you see that when with the contrails that come of them when they maneuver, etc. So the little F-16 are prolly caught up in the not one but 6 of the Hornets turbulence.
@Pilot5453 жыл бұрын
@@ILSRWY4 Retired F-16 pilot here (ret 2014). Yours is the closest answer. The latter half is more accurate than the first half. All modern fighter designs are inherently unstable...F-18 included. The biggest reason is size and turbulence. An additional factor is the side stick controller of the Viper is very sensitive to input. Original design, the stick didn’t move at all (just used transducers to measure pressure applied...current setup still uses transducers but they put in a little movement to give some “feel”). Btw, being small as a fighter is DEF the advantage you want! SOOOO hard to see the tiny little F-16 when it is nose on to you. And in a WVR fight, losing sight means you lose the fight. Having said that, I’ve always thought the F-18 makes a better air show platform because it’s easier to see for the audience. And...I truly enjoy the Blue Angles’ show over the Thunderbirds’. 😬
@ILSRWY43 жыл бұрын
@@Pilot545 I had an USAF instructor Pilot tell me that the F-18 in a combat scenario is the better platform than the F-16 Fighting Falcon. The smaller F16 can't carry the same internal fuel, thus stations are sacrificed for Tanks, and those tanks make the Falcon less maneuverable but you need those fuel tanks because you can't always count on a tanker being available. You mention "size" ... that is why I said the F-18 is larger and the "little F-16" in my comment above. And yes I am aware of the the side control hand grip of the F-16. It only moves a 1/4 inch in any direction, because it is all fly by wire control. The f-18 too is fly by wire but has a conventional center stick - but in the case of the Blues- they also have a 40lb bungy pull on the stick which causes the pilot to have a constant "pull" on the stick and makes for better, more precise control input. Same reason the Blues don't were G suites. Allows them to rest their arms on the legs while having that constant "pull" on the stick.

One of the best things about living in Maryland all my life (almost 35 years) is that I get to see both these magnificent demonstration squadrons almost every year, the Blue Angels do an airshow over the Severn River just a day or so before their flyover of the USNA for the annual commencement of our country's newest ensigns commission into the U.S. Navy. While seeing the Thunderbirds isn't as frequent in recent years they've taken part in the annual Ocean City Air Show and as I'll be assisting in the airshow this year I'm looking forward to seeing them again! Outstanding video!

Weird that Lt Bratton was back in the Legacy #7 for this and not the Super..
@robertdevitz21503 жыл бұрын
I believe this is because the F model super hornet allocated to the Blues has not yet been fully converted from fleet spec. They have still been flying the legacy #7 since the official transition to all of the advance meetings at the upcoming show sites as well.
@eazymoneyracing3 жыл бұрын
@@robertdevitz2150 if you watch prior videos, you will see that the Blues have been flying the heck out of the the new family model Super Bug #7. I'm thinking it was broke so all they had was the Legacy as the Birds were using both of theirs for the sortie.

Awesome combined fly by! Would love to see a 2 on 2 chase, counter-chase sequence too some day : D but I have vote down the smoke, sorry... I feel just not necessary and can even be seen as counter-productive to the display team. Respects ✌
@brothermanv3 жыл бұрын
The teams use some for a few reasons. For one, when they break, it's easier to spot planes when there's smoke. Solos use it for a similar reasons. One of the biggest uses of smoke is the debrief. They turn off smoke whenever they call "clear". That is, when they slightly lose formation. Seeing this on video is very useful

Since someone mentioned that the Super Hornets being a lot bigger than the F16's Now just add up all the thrust horsepower in the air at that time with total of almost 500,000 pounds of thrust in the air at that time What does a half million pounds of thrust like that will feel on your butt.
