Yes, I agree about the veggies. I need a larger size portion of veggies. Hubby loved the meats.

Thanks for watching, cuisine fiends! Feel free to ask about anything I didn't cover and let me know which service YOU like best. Apologies for the lighting/focus weirdness in the taste tests. My camera kept switching to auto instead of manual. Check out my Hello Fresh review: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKrEg5qXbMd-apY

What a great review. Tons of hard work for you. Wow! I loved the meals with Hello Fresh, but I didn’t think it was enough food. Never any left overs and for a family not very cost effective. Especially now, but I loved the recipes.

Thanks for watching! It was a lot of work but worth it to know what's up with these services. Honestly, they're great for portion control since the point is to not have excess. I think that's a good thing in America where most people overeat and waste a lot. These kits are a good way to break that habit, and some recipes stretch farther than others, but it definitely won't work for everyone. An athletic person who needs more food to support training would struggle with what either of these provide per serving. I know how ravenous I get with exercise and lifting. It would be a nightmare to stick to their idea of one serving per meal. It's perfect while I'm slothing around, though 😆 And with the serving caps and recipe types, bigger families wouldn't be able to just make a huge pot of something for the week and be done with it. But for the average solo, couple, or house with two kids wanting to cut down what they eat and how much they throw away, both services are fine. For the money, your mileage may vary. I don't find it cost effective even with the discount because I'm fine going out to the grocery and I can get more with coupons/sales, but a lot of people don't know how to be frugal and a lot of people can't leave home. This may be better for their wallet.

if you season in steps and season things at different times when cooking, it's actually how you layer flavors. Chemicly the salt & seasonings will be doing different things to different ingredients at different times... all of my chef friends constantly stress how important when & what to season is. And after paying closer attention you'll start to notice that it's not the same of just adding the seasonings/salt at any ol time to the full dish... good review though! Answered a lot of questions I had. :)

Very true! When I season and how much depends on what I'm making. I've been cooking my entire life and already pay close attention to the nuance involved, so I'm well aware of the impact every step makes, including temperature control, manipulation, and seasoning. But this isn't a cooking channel, it's a review channel, and I'm following other people's recipes. I don't know yet how reliable they are, and for the sake of the reviews, I'm not tasting anything until the very end. Since seasoning is where a lot of recipes go wrong, including recipes by chefs, it's something to be mindful about. Especially people who don't cook often. If you're seasoning and verifying the results as you go as usual to build upon it, that's different. That's why I think I said it's okay for people to season as they normally would if following the steps exactly seems like it'll be too much, unless that was in my other review. Thanks so much for watching!

I didn't see the Hello Fresh video but I had a bad experience with Hello Fresh. I only lasted 3 weeks. I kept getting veggies that were unedible (if that's a word). Carrots that were limp, potatoes with eyes, bruised squash. I ended up throwing 1/2 of it away.

That's awful! I wonder if it's a regional thing whenever someone has the same problem repeatedly. Like maybe the place your order came from has a problem with how they source vegetables, so other customers receiving deliveries from the same place also had bad veggies. I hope you ended up with an alternative that works for you! Thanks for watching and commenting!

Same here. Also they consistently ship food without an insulator...they just throw the block of ice pack in a paper bag...NOT safe.

Looks like a good serving amount to me. I guess I"d look up what is a serving size for an adult and compare it to what they gave you. A lot of the times our eyes are bigger than our stomachs LOL

For sure! Lol It definitely saves on waste too. Thanks for watching!

How difficult is it to cancel?
@mealbeforeme Жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply! I don't remember what the process was but canceling has been as easy as clicking a link for all of the services I've reviewed so far. If I ever have an issue canceling, I'll definitely mention it in the video, so if I didn't say anything about it here, then it was fine. Thanks for stopping by! 😀

I ordered blue apron and my package was destroyed in transit, I considered it a one off and gave it another try, but then the food they sent wasn’t what I picked
@mealbeforeme Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I'm sorry to hear that. My latest review was of Home Chef and that's the first one where I had some delivery and ingredient issues, though nothing was destroyed thankfully. That's one major issue with these services. Quality control is so important with food because things not showing up or being wrong can literally ruin your meal plans.

They should ask you if you had some of the ingredients at your home too to save even more $
@mealbeforeme Жыл бұрын
That would be a really interesting idea! Like if you picked a recipe and it said to check off any ingredients you don't need, then maybe adjusted the price accordingly. It would be sort of like a hybrid of regular grocery shopping and meal kit shopping. If a company tried that, I'd be curious how it went. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!

Actual servings seem smaller than when we really want visually

the 1st meal photo looks more like the full portion as your half looked very very small I think I could just eat the two portions. it would be good to add up the weights of each meal. for the cost. And compare with just buying the items in the shops and do it yourself cheaper. most of the meals and the size of the amount the cost of what you pay just does not seem worth it. I seen an offer to get meals at UK £3 a meal but looking at what they are doing I could just get the items at the shops at the same price so At full price, it is so far away from any value. as many of the meals include items that I do not like or would never buy.

Thanks for watching and commenting! All of the pictures are a close up of the portion I show and eat in the review. I just snap it before I hit record, so they were all for 1 serving here with the other half put away already. 1 serving was enough for me but that doesn't mean I couldn't eat both servings anyway 😂 I say all the time that these services are expensive for what I personally spend outside of the reviews, but for what a lot of other people spend, it's about the same. I think the main pull is convenience for people who don't want to get groceries, or they don't want to buy whole packs of things if they only need a handful. I wouldn't do a price comparison since cost varies too much, so me making one of their recipes cheaper doesn't mean everyone can. It depends on how much things cost where they are. That's why I like doing these reviews! People can see the prices, the food, the amounts, and judge if it's worth it for them. I haven't come across one that's financially worth it to me to continue yet, even though I liked the food.
