they look at a lot of other things besides hands (and he does have spectacular hand work) marching, ability to roll with on-the-moment music changes etc. You could make a drum line of just the kids who get cut, and it would probably be an amazing group. I was pretty decent back in the day, but the talent level is so high now...I'd probably make cymbals in the C corps...

@@michaelengle9062 Agreed! I made the line only because I could read music and learn the parts fast. No auditions or cuts back then, but also no competition from "outsiders" for openings in the line. Nowadays the talent pool is worldwide and full of I&E champion-level players!

Here is one small positive to this current pandemic and is specific only to this situation here........it appears that an announcement will come from DCI on Thursday, 3/26 that will announce that the season is being cancelled. They will likely/hopefully extend eligibility which would mean that this talented musician has another shot to make the line. Here's hoping that this happens. Good luck Kiichi!

Great but devils are picky. Bring your left hand up more at angle and try to work on keeping more fingers on the stick on the left. Almost every time you play a flam or diddle your left ring and pinky finger look like they’re going on vacation. Otherwise good job

I think learning that playing in a DCI snare line is not simply about how good you are or how much chops you have. It's about the ability to blend. It's about sound quality. Honestly, the stick choice and the drum tuning and how you're punching out the low end without letting your taps breathe... I can see why you didn't make the cut. This is nothing against your amazing ability to grid insane shit-it's just not what is suited for playing clean with 8 or 9 other people.
