Correction....... This recording was performed by the 1996 Blue Devils Hornline featuring Roger Carter on set. This performance was on G Bugles and by 2000, BD was on Bb horns. Trust me...I was there to experience the transition. Much respect to you and the original members that played this song.

ah finally the real info. thank you. I've been tryign to find a full copy of this recording, i've only had this one song's recording, and though I got it in the 90s, it was late 90's and I wasn't sure when the recording was made just that it was the 92 show's arrangement and still on the glorious G horns. Drum and bugle corps, not drum and brassline corps. There's a reason it was called hornline not brassline then, the whole transition was a very sad affair for DCI. Of course all the indoor smoking bans also sadly greatly hurt many corps' due to fundraising methods that were hurt. The corps I marched in the 90s closed its doors in the last decade because they were 99% supported by Bingo hall revenues, and people don't play bingo for long if they have to go outside to smoke, especially old ladies lol. A lot of corps in the 90s and before were supported in this way or very similarly (division ii and iii anyway) to keep tour fees down for the members so they could maintain a good membership without income restrictions, and still not skimp on things. //mourning

@uubboy14 G's are lower toned, but much more louder, and apparently harder to tune. The reason why everyone wants them to go back to G's is because they literally melt your face off. I've had the pleasure of marching them in the Blue Stars a while ago, they are fun. But, unfortunately Bb's are in the picture now, which unless you're watching Carolina Crown, there is a difference in sound.
@JGx51213 жыл бұрын
@DUVALDALLASFAN A Drum Corp is very similar to a band in the sense that they perform field shows, where they differ is that Drum Corps only marches brass and percussion as opposed to brass, wood winds, and percussion. Also, the activity takes place during summer with camps usually starting around this time of year and it's a lot more intense, all of the Corps strive for nothing less than perfection.

We all have the fucking Cadets to thank for the Bb horns. I wish a few directors would admit to the truth that G horns are the only way to go for drum corps and go back!

All of you saying these are trumpets need to get your hearing checked. I was there AT this performance (watching from another corps) in 92 and I have had the recording of this exact performance in this video before DCI ever swapped from G bugles in the first place and this recording is not even 1 note different to the squeal at the end. This is indeed from 1992 and played on G horns. I am a native trumpet player, but drum corps will NEVER sound as good on trumpets as it did on these horns. The sound just isn't as rich.

Just to put some of the speculation to rest, this was recorded on G bugles in 1996 for the season preview CD. Roger Carter is playing drum set. It was recorded pre-season in a quad area at Diablo Valley College next door to Concord in Pleasant Hill. Some of the other parts of that CD were recorded across the street from the BD corps hall. I was there playing baritone in this horn line. There were still several 92 vets in this hornline, myself included.

This is 1992. I've had the audio recording of this since the 90s, note for note, flourish for flourish. These people either weren't there or haven't listened to this exact recording as many times over the years as I have. It is NOT on trumpets, it is not from this century even.

@DuvalFAN.....MB is an excuse to get out of PE. Drum Corps is a way of life. MBs are usually boring and unlistenable to a trained ear....a worldpclass Corps can SHOOT THE LIGHTS OUT in a packed NFL Stadium. Traditional corps derive military tradition and SOPs from their initial Civil War origins. Artistry and human expression are equally paramount. People I have marched drum corps alongside that went on to the military report that basic training was "a joke" compared to "12&12s" common to West Coast pre-season training (That's 12hrs reh...12hrs rest...rpt...8days a wk for ~90days depending on progress...members get 1 day every 14days for laundry and a lil free-time if it is earned). MBs practice 0period or after school on avg 1hr/day. They play at hs football games where no one in attendance is there to see them. Drum Corps play at competitive shows usually held in college/univ/NFL stadiums for 1,000 to 60,000 fans who are ALL THERE to see/hear them. Anyone can join a MB....prospective members of top6 Corps must beat 100s or 1000s of equally talented competitors to get a coveted "open drill spot" ....that or are so talented they get invited to join. On tour, corps members sign autographs....during football season, MBs get knocked-around, spit on, degraded, ranks broken, made fun of....etc. Corps defend themselves, their, buddies, there uniforms, their equipment and their ranks with a zero-tolerance policy. The 1000s of hours of reh. each year get reemebered by ONE 10.5 minute recording ....their final performance at their respective world championship. As a corps member....I was respected, honored, dignified and shocked by what 120 people can accomplish with a shared conscious goal. As a member of the Cal Poly MB, our visit to UNV was marked by UNV fans on the visitor-side blocking my access to the restrooms, getting beer-bottles thrown at me....and a 5yr old girl whose father most-likely told her to "tell that man in the white uniform to f--- off" (and raise THIS finger at him). This behavior towards a uniformed musician at a corps show would be unthinkable.

@Tapper7 You've never watched the top programs that compete in BOA I would wager. Avon, William Mason, Tarpon Springs, almost every program from Texas are all great programs to watch. As an educator who teaches marching band and has marched in top finalist and championship drum corps, I take offense to your first sentence. We physically challenge the kids in the program I work with and they get more out of our rehearsals during the season than they would in any sport or PE program in the school. That isn't because the sporting or PE programs in the school are bad, our kids just want to be challenged to the highest level possible. Saying marching bands are boring and not listenable is insulting not just to myself and other educators, but also the students who maximize the time we are able to rehearse with what restrictions we have. I have been fortunate to be with programs throughout my years that never got pushed around by anyone at the school because they know they would have to deal with the whole group if they messed with one of us. I find your statement to be lacking in facts and is an insult to the entire marching activity.
