At least three generations of Filipinos who followed college sports have been wondering why “Blue Eagle the King” is no longer the marching, cheering, and college theme song of Ateneo. While many of the fight songs of well-known colleges in the Philippines were copied from American schools, “Blue Eagle the King” was an original and exceptional. Composed (words and music) by Raul S. Manglapus, the song was so good and appreciated that an American School (Brooklyn Preparatory School) copied it, words and music, and adopted it as their own. They called themselves the Brooklyn Prep Blue Eagles. Manglapus was a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Ateneo, a former Philippine Senator, and former Secretary of Foreign Affairs. Reviving it is a good tribute and an affirmation of Filipino pride!
