The critique about the musical choices being "tonally out of place" is nonsensical. I felt no such "disconnect" or felt that my viewing experience was lacking "seamlessness" in any way. Other than that, this was a competent examination.

It reminded me a lot of Tarantino's Kill Bill, I even think there are a couple of songs which were also used in that movie, "Battle Without Honor or Humanity" is the one I remember right now. It's possible too that the anachronistic use of music in this animation is strongly inspired by Samurai Champloo, an anime that mixed a lot of hip hop in a story set in feudal Japan (an alternate and stylized version of it in which there are even baseball games). In any case, I adored the way the music was used in Blue Eye Samurai, it's obvious the homage to films and series that preceded it.

It's Mizu, not Mitsu (so pronounced mee-zu, not meet-zu). Best new show in a long time. I don't think I saw a Japanese spelling of her name so I'm not certain which Mizu is intended, but the most common would mean "Water" - which may reflect her blue eyes or may mean something else like "auspicious" - we'd have to see it written in Japanese to know (I may have missed it if it was written, Japanese not my primary language). On watching again - it looks like Mizu's mark on her blades (her first knife and those made after) as well as on her sword - 水 is that for "water". So confirmed.

I enjoyed your evaluation; although I also felt all the musical choices fit well. I chose not to watch Kill Bill. I was not familiar with that music. I was drawn to this powerful female character. I guessed she was not a he in the very beginning, but I wanted to see how she dealt with her life and experiences. I loved the story content, characters, social issues, technology techniques, and the historical aspects. It was a great experience; even if some scenes were uncomfortable. I like a good challenge to my perspective! Your commentary was entertaining as well! I’d like to see more of your work.

I see contemporary music insertion - prominently in episode 6 where Mizu storms the castle Fowler is hideing in - as a tool to get us to suspend our disbelif further. Mizu's asention to upper levels of the castle is goofy, over the top, videogamey action sequence that is plain silly. Goofy music almost seem as a way the director is telling to a wiever: "I know, I know... suffer me a bit please.". I dont understand why would they do this!? On the start of the episode you see the skeletons of women and children disposed as sexual inconviniance - very real and heavy subject, followed by stylized action sequences that are rediculous and unreal.

I just said I want to see everyone else to see it if I see you, but they need to understand how definitely people think and work And you need to explain in a slower verse. Yes, slowed down OK

I didn´t like the show as well. No creativity with how they approach any themes instead filling the dialogue and dumb action scenes with clichés and cheap philosophy. No respect for historical accuracy or the material instead pumping cheap japanese culture and samurai vibes into your eyes and a princess who doesn´t fit any time period prior to modern days expecting us to find her relatable and support her "fit" against the whole system of the time. The whole show felt predictable; the amputee dude was more like an annoying piece of furniture that the main character had to drag around places; nude scenes left and right ruining the show. The feeling I get is that Netflix realized that anime is making money so they decided to make one following some kind of recipe where the key to sucess is pumping the viewer with has many slides of the japanese picturesque things and classical samurai stand offs or actions, and fitting adult sensitive scenes everywhere wether it´s blood, gore or sex. All in the hope the viewer doesn´t realize it´s a very badly written story that is reminiscent of the Edo period and not an actual portrayal of the time period or atleast a good story about that time period. If you would like a good anime that has a better take out of Edo period, accomplishes hundredfold what this series tried to achieve and shares a frightfully similar plot , I recommend Samurai Champloo.

Talk about not paying attention. The show is about Mizu getting revenge against her father (who is one of the white men she is hunting) that forced her to be born, and because she is mixed, she had a shitty life because of one of them. Her reason isn't "killing them for no reason", its killing the men who ruined her mother's life and her own by being rapists. And the writing is showing that her revenge was only making her more of a monster than a human, just like how people perceived her for having blue eyes. The lack of media literacy is crazy from the anti-woke crowd.

@@jordannavarro2445He does make some good points tho. I've watched the show myself and am thoroughly turned off by many of its aspects. 1. How hollywood keeps going for low hanging fruit and its depiction of racial hatred. For example, since the character is mixed with white that is seen as a negative. But if she were mixed with anything else it would be seen as a virtue. I guarantee that if her father was black the story would not be about her going to hunt him down to kill him. It is not politically correct. 2. This has to do with the portral of Japan during the Edo period. Compared to how I see it done in Japanese media it feels like a false facsimile here. The way the people act and the way they talk is often very off-putting. It doesn't feel right at all. A Leftist Americanized idea of old Japan, you can call it. The princess is a big example of this. 3. The main character's backstory makes no sense towards the end. Everything that happened felt very contrived and forced. Don't get me wrong, I liked her backstory at first but then the ending happened and I was just very confused. 4. Lady Kaji's whole arc. I'm sure the Riders were setting her up to be a villain but then changed their minds towards the end. Given all the context clues that I left behind. But instead they wanted her to be the Godmother of feminism. And somehow her involvement made the princess even more and moron. 5. The music choices threw me out a lot. 6. There is a stupid modern social justice messages all over the damn place. Honestly, I see this as a sign that Hollywood and Netflix to that extent just cannot help themselves. Men bad, woman good. Bad men weak, good woman strong. I've just had enough of it.

@vergil8833 This is an absolute misuse of the term narcissistic… foreigners were seen as literal Yokai on and before the Edo period of Japan. Racial homogeneity was not just socially enforced but a huge part of the law of the land and any deviation from that was met with hostility. To dismiss a real social issue especially one that properly reflects its time as intrinsically narcissistic is actually quite narcissistic.
