The writing was fantastic but it was the voice acting that made the show for me. Erskine's always been good, in this she's great. Also, props to Randall Park for being in pretty much everything, the guys a literal swiss army actor.

7:11 During that scene I thought Mizu had killed her former bully. My mind immediately drew a connection to the game Sifu with how the Mc is driven to kill, faces opposition, and has the opportunity to spare or kill.

To be fair I do think people in general are very bias against op female characters. They need a reason to be strong. Wheras you can have characters like Gojo who was just gifted op abilities and at the start no one cared if he was super strong without any explanation of how he got there. It only really applies if the female character is op and a lead, thats when you need development, because its not a gender thing at that stage. The only exception to this rule I can think of is if the premise of the mc being op is a gag and the true conflict lies elsewhere eg, One Punch Man.

Gojo is a bad example for this, he is not the mc and since the beginning it is implied that they woud seal him. His plot is, yeah, he is the strongest but it really is about how he has flaws too and how to they take advantage of it. Plus there are many animes with the mc being male and op but no one talks about it bc just as in Mulan, Captain Marvel, StarWars etc, no one cares about them anymore.

as much I LOVED Blue Eye Samurai.....I cringe everytime dare to say this show is the BEST LOOKING ANIMATED SHOW on Netflix..........when you have ARCANE ON THE SAME PLATFORM my dude please Arcane only compared with MOVIES like Across the Spiderverse compete with the Arcane visuals that's how far the bar was raise....yes Blue Eye Samurai actually is one of the best looking things netflix have ever done in terms of visuals and storywise is amazing...........................but ain't even CLOSE on visuals to surpass Arcane c´mon my dude not start this review stating some that overhyped, again amazing show, my favorite of 2023 entire streaming even I put it above Scavengers Reigns which is another fantastic visual incredible adult show....but again....ARCANE EXIST you even put clips and still does looks INSANE, just wanted to put this, I 100% agree on everything else except that.

Well that's pretty much your subjective opinion. Arcane has a completely different artstyle and vibe and is a masterpiece of it's own. But it does not in the slightest, take away from how good this show is animated and especially how good the fight choreographies are, compared to a lot of other content. In both series nearly every frame you could look at is a piece of art, that could be used as a wallpaper. You can't allways compare stuff one to one and call one inherently better than the other. Yeah sometimes shows just are shite and really badly animated, but when comparing two shows that are this good, you have to judge them by what they tried to achieve. Arcane wanted to be flashy, artsy and overall really over the top, while being grounded in it's fantasy setting, while Blue eye Samurai pretty obviousely wanted to look more like a more modern interpretation of old Japanese Artworks, which is apparent when looking at all the backgrounds and also one of the reasons why they mixed 2d and 3d animation.

‘Arcane’ has a LOT of stylized features, so much that it can be little overwhelming (like the reveal in the flash forward of the girl with pink hair was disorienting in the big picture of storytelling, “wtf is this? Is the Vi? why is she here?”); it’s just a little unbalanced “Blue Eye Samurai” demonstrates more meticulous storytelling and the art production expresses that so deliberately - when you got hit with a haymaker like the Ambush of the 4 Fangs, every part of it felt intentional, especially the little hints that the Fang Leader was Blood Soaked Chiaki… only a few times was it even minorly dependent on contrivance, and the screentime remarkably efficient That’s not to say “Arcane” wasn’t important for demanding scenes that were like an asset storm across a whirly setpiece, but the intention behind “Blue Eye Samurai” scenes is just so focused and poetic
