After the downturn in the Oil & Gas market in 2014, the PX121 PSV designs have proven their flexibility and have been converted to several other segments. The Blue Fighter (and sister vessel Blue Prosper) have recently (Jan 2022) been redesigned and converted to ERRVs (Emergency Response Rescue Vessels) at Ulstein Verft: ulstein.com/news/delivery-of-the-errv-vessel-esvagt-heidi

I wonder if it would be a good crab fishing vessel in the Bering Sea. Probably quite a bit bigger than the boats seen on deadliest catch, but I'm sure the model design could be scaled down a little.

Why don't the military produce something like this that can be a stable platform even in chippy conditions for several helicopters or, say, one (ideally new Harrier but) F35? I've seen these ships with a helipad on top of the wheelhouse, so a small chopper (like a Wasp) could be kept up there keeping the aft deck clear for other ordnance, protective firepower, etc? Or is that a stupid question?

The X-BOW was first taken in use on offshore vessels, but has later been adopted into other markets. Many of the X-BOW vessels are used in harsh weather and sea conditions, and several have heli decks. We have received feedback that in rough conditions, a helicopter was able to land on the X-BOW vessel and not on the conventional bow vessel operating next to it. How would this design work on warships? I can envision this design incorporated into a large ship like an aircraft carrier, tanker, or naval supply ships, buy I'm nor sure about smaller ships like destroyers. Anything that would help reduce man's fragility in storms at sea is greatly appreciated. Congratulations Ulstein.

It has not yet been tried. Several green design options for X-BOW vessels have been developed, including an LNG PAX vessel with four high efficiency wingsails, along with in-wing solar panels and LNG tank area ventilation pipes. If the bow dives into a big wave, the water will go rushing to the bridge. Unlike the common bow, it pushes away the water, away from bridge and climbs up the waves.

Do they ever build this style of vessel with the wheel house down the back? That is the most stable part of the vessel.

The Blue Fighter PX121 platform supply vessel was developed to service the North Sea oil installations, transporting liquids, goods and equipment in storage tanks under deck or on the work deck. The majority of power is in the aft part of the vessel, so a PSV will typically operate with its back to the rig. With the wheelhouse in the front, the vessel avoids any danger of hitting the rig. The Blue Fighter is one of two PX121 vessels which are now undergoing conversion from a PSV to a battery hybrid ERRV vessel, see our homepage ulstein.com

True, the introduction is very long, as several of you have pointed out. This video was however not produced for social media originally, it was made on occasion of the naming ceremony of this vessel, where a long introduction was preferred. The platform supply vessels of the PX121 design, all featuring the X-BOW hull shape, now count 30 world-wide, of which Blue Fighter (now: NAO Fighter) was the very first!

Nothing about this ship is clean if your still using bunker fuel in your engine. This stuff is so dirty it makes any ship running from it obsolete and not worth putting to sea. Shit fuel, shit ship.
