dennis trumata I left them together until I saw fry moving. The female is not needed after a successful mating. I removed the male 2 days after all Fry are free swimming.

delwar hossain be patient. If you’re not watching closely you probably missed them courting. Otherwise, she’s probably not ready. Try adding another female.

I think that those are just leaves as there arent any roots visible. Probably almond leaves. But you can also use water lettuce, duckweed and even artificial floating plants.

what Kind of vegetation did you use ? How often and How did you changed water ?

J Mcguire lucky bamboo and some broad leaf lettuce. I changed out the lettuce for styrofoam cups later on. I did get artificial lily pads much later on. I didn't do any water change during the filming of this video because it was only a bit over a week's worth. They started courtship soon after I placed them in there.

Sorry, I'm not sure what you're asking. If you have fry in the bubble nest then there's nothing to worry about.

IllusionandAyushgamer Rai my personal decision depends on how destroyed the nest is. If it’s completely destroyed then I would move the gouramis into their own tank where they can start over. If it’s partial, I’d remove the others.

I tried breeding them several times without any success. My ques is do i need to introduce female first in breeding set up or should i introduce both of them at once in breeding set up. My male was more intrested in fihgting n nipping female instead of making bubble net. So what should i do. I also prepared both of them in separte continers by feeding food rich in protein n then introdeced them but havent got any success. Any suggestion or tip for me to have a positive outcome...

My male was actually the same way at the beginning but I think that was foreplay, lol. I personally waited to until the male changed colors to put them by themselves. I put them in together. When he's ready he'll get a lot darker than how dark they turn when they're scared like when you try to net them, you'll notice they're color gets darker. The male gets darker than that when he's ready to breed. You should try adding another female if you can. 3-1 ratio usually is the rule of thumb. I got lucky my first try and documented it. I see from other comments that none of the fry survived which is very unfortunate after all the work you put into it. Can I ask, how long did they survive for and what were you feeding them?

andy stokes sure, about 1/3 the population died off as wigglers when I went on vacation for week and had someone tend to them. I don't remember the exact length of time but only a handful grew to about 2" and started dying off. I started feeding with egg yolk then to NLS fry food (powdered), then flakes when they were bigger. I've since moved on to African cichlids.

Sai Reddy I don’t think it’s required but it won’t hinder. I had light on it to record video then the lights go off afterwards. It wasn’t totally dark with the tank lights off and they still did it.

Judit Gagyi sounds like breeding behavior. Leave them alone and let them breed. If and when they do, remove the female after the eggs are free swimming but leave the male in to take care of the fry.

Sorry to hear but not enough info to answer. If it's the female that's on the bottom then she might be stressed out from being chased. Try adding another female to help spread out the male's chase.

Your video is great, however you left out a lot of steps, you didn't describe what kind of conditioning it took to get them too the point of breeding. Like fed the female live foods for a week as well as the male. Also how long you should condition the pair, how to make the introduction of the female into the aquarium. what foods should be fed to the fry once they become free swimming, how many water changes, & when to stop feeding certain foods, when to start culling out the spawn. I'm not criticizing you at all, I'm just suggesting more written dialogue over video. I've successfully breed Betta fish for over 25 years, & although I haven't breed the Blue Gouramis. I have bred the Pearl, Dwarf, & moonlight Gouramis. I no longer breed because I don't have the time to anymore, but someday I do hope to return to my favorite hobby. Keep up the great work.

Herman King thanks for your input. It wasn't really meant to be an instructional video. I just made it for my cousin in NY to see what I did. Never thought it'll get any other views. I'm no expert by all means. I've since moved in to African cichlids and there's so many videos out there about them already.

@@kimbulters3934 How deep was your water at the time of breeding? I've breed Betta fish since I was 13 & I'm in my 50's now, having said that you have to determine which Gourami species you're going to breed? Now remember that Gouramis fry are slightly larger than betta fry & are a tad bit more hardier. So I wouldn't breed them in anything less than 20 gallons filled half way. As far as water changes are concerned you can use a nice sponge filter to remove the water from the tank without disturbing the fry.

And they exhibit spawning behavior in my community tank, so I took them out and place them in the 20g fed frozen blood worms. My female did seem interested my male just never built a bubble nest but chased her

You can feed them what you normally feed them. Just not as much as normal. The male will barely eat because he’s busy with his duties.

Rj S water changes are going to tough to do with some loss since they’re so small. The best way could think of is to install a hamburg matten filter and drain from the gap between the glass and filter where there’s no fish.
