I bought the blue and was not impressed. 😢 It made my hair stringy, super dry, and super crunchy. I couldn’t even scrunch out all the crunch, it was weird. And just like what happened in your video happened to me - the blue color flakes off everywhere when you scrunch it out! I mean everywhere, I had a blue powder coating all over my bathroom. And the color payoff is not great since it flakes off. I had to do what you did and apply a lot more on dry hair, which just made it crunchier. Your hair still looks great with all of that in it, but mine did not. I may try another color and see if there’s a difference with the colors. And take your advice and add a cream first.

Courtney: Thank you for doing this video. I bought the copper and gold thinking it would look like highlights in my hair. It was MUCH more vibrant because of the copper color. The gel also really dried out my hair a lot. So, i had given up on using it for everyday, fun use. But wait!! Along came an opportunity for me to “dress loud” for a Zoom Court Hearing in the morning. So, I was going to try to use the colors again for loudness. After watching this video, I think I’ll refresh my day 4 (by in the morning) hair as I’ve been doing this week (my new fave method) and then scrunch in the hair make up on my fairly dry, refreshed hair. Interesting technique. I’ll try to take some selfies if I have time. I’m using day 4 hair because I KNOW I’m going to want to wash and deep conditioner/moisturize afterwards. Anyway, thanks for the idea. They sent me an email on making ourselves with the turquoise, roe gold and the red. Try that and let me know what you think.

I love that weightless airdry cream. They aren't kidding when they say weightless. My hair is so freaking soft when I use it, but not in the fluffy overmoisturized kind of way. I think your method might have diluted the gel too much to hold the color on well.

Hi Courtney, I can assume that your hair became so much curlier because you used way much more product than you usually do. I would enjoy seeing you adding more of your normal routine products to see if that will give you more curls too. Because for me this is always the case. Quick tip... if you sit down and and use the prayer hand method on smaller pieces you'll get better coverage and use a ton less. Defusing would break most of the cast and defusing instead of using a drying cloth would leave the color on more.

Another thing: $20.00 for 3 ounces people!!! Sally’s has cheaper natural temp dye in bigger bottle. So you get more. Curlsmith makes temp dye bottle look the size of there other squeeze bottles but it’s not. Zoom in pic and you can see the product size.

Olivia Shafer your right. It isn’t very much product and the price isn’t dirt cheap. Quick question: do the temp dye a Sally’s completely rinse out of your hair? Are they 100% curly girl method approved? Sometimes the temporary hair waxes contain a bunch of wax which makes them not curly girl approved. And the other temporary hair dyes I’ve looked at from Sally’s don’t completely rinse out of your hair after one use. They actually temporarily dye the hair for a certain period of time. Did you find a complete dupe at Sally’s for this product? I would love to check it out!

Swavy Curly Courtney semi permanent color only sits on top of the hair so it’s not going to harm it at all. I don’t know of any semi permanent dyes that have wax. There are colored waxes, sure but most temporary hair color is just that. Color in a bottle. So it should be just fine to use in curly hair, the issue would be if your hair is light enough for it to show up but otherwise it’s just gonna rinse out. Some colors can add a little bit of a stain but that can be fixed by clarifying and even then, when I was super blonde and was playing with temporary colors, I never had a problem getting the color out. Mostly the opposite where I was doing what I could to keep it in my hair

Me waiting a month for my hair color makes me think Curlsmith sends it out to youtubers first before regular customers. I ordered it 2 days after Curlsmith put it on their website! Yet all curly youtubers got their bottles within the month. Some a week after Curlsmith put products on website. Ulta didn’t have any until a week after Curlsmith website had it. Regular customers get shafted unless they go to Ulta which is a 40 minute drive one way.

Most of these colored gel type products are for adding color & hold to specific areas of your hair/hairstyle--like bangs, twists, braids,etc not really for completely dying your entire head. There are temporary dyes for that purpose that gradually fade with each wash. I haven't cared for the ones I've tried in the past & since I highlight my hair I must be careful of any temp color because it will stain bleached hair. Blue & Purple on dark blonde hair just ends up looking grey or ashy, the reds will fade pink but the golds & coppers usually look pretty good. Maybe Curl Smith should make a regular curl enhancing product without color in this formula 😉

You could try out a red temp colour to give a bit of sheen, or a strong blue/green. There are formulas for dark hairs, just be warned that if you've low porosity hair (like mine was before all the bleaching I've done) the colour might not show up anyway.

I think blue is going to look good only on very very light and cold blond, gray or black hair. Yours is blond but it is kind of warm and it makes the blue look greenish. Probably any of the others look better on you, however the curls are definitely at their best

Omg your hair got super curly. I always use waaaay more than a tsp of my gel and I get such beautiful results like your hair today. I have always been curious as to why you only use a teaspoon! I use a small scant handful of my TGI catwalk curls gel? Is there a reason you don’t use as much/ do you prefer a less defined curl?

Idk how hers would, but I can tell you my experience. Adding more product definetly helps with shrinkage when I style my hair the right way (ie plopping and IMMEDIATELY diffusing to set a cast before the curls get weighed down), but it lasts half as long. My hair get gritty, heavy and itchy if i overdo it, but thats just my experienxe! Some of my curly friends have said the same, but I would love to see Courtney try it as well!

Honestly, anything above one use is probably worth it considering it doesn’t hurt your hair. You can spend that much on boxed dye that destroys your hair, you spend a year or more growing it out to get the damage and color out of your hair. Color you are probably bored with by the end of one week anyway (if you’re like me 🤣).

My hair is really frizzy and I have a lot of fly aways so with the fly aways I need to brush to get them down. Also coconut oil helps a little. I've already bought a satin pillow case and the shampoo and conditioner formulate and I been diffusing on cool or just drying on cool. But my hair needs brushing to not look stringy and ugh and messy

I been waiting a month from Curlsmith for my products. No Ulta where I live so I ordered my products and with Curlsmith not having phone number and email only it has taken forever. Curlsmith couldn’t find my order so I sent screenshots of order #,pic of products,and amount deducted from financial account. 2 weeks later they sent out my package but it’s been taken another 2 weeks for products to get to me. Post office said hopefully I will get package by this Thursday. Next time I’m using Ulta for Curlsmith products. At least Ulta has customer service number in case something goes wrong.

I used my sister with the red one because she has mouse brown hair and myn is dark it turned her hair more of a liver red but it made her hair really stiff and sticky so I don't know if I put it in wrong or its supposed to be like that ah I see the problem I followed directions next time try your way
