Great job Matt. This is why people should be proactive about taking out everything they carry in, and others discarded trash if feasible. Fishing line can be a death sentence to many species. The sheer filth of some fisherman simply baffles me at times.

Yep, I hate losing gear. Not for the loss of fishing time or expense but for the environmental impact. I'm a shore fisherman in the UK and if I lose gear I'll always return at low tide and try to get it back. I often find other lost rigs too. I hate the thought of a bird, seal or dog finding the baited hooks.

@mooseknucklesoutdoors13293 жыл бұрын
@@swamptosoundadventures8337 I hear you, but my comment was in general. There are so many areas along the rivers I fish, where discarded trash dominates the shoreline. I don’t understand how difficult it is to pick your trash up when you leave, they carried that trash in… Line and lure loss happens, it’s fishing. But getting a snag doesn’t equate to the numerous piles of 200 yards of 10,000 pound stren mono I find constantly. I’m calling some of you out, people fishing for catfish are some of the worst. Just filthy animals with no respect for the environment. Containers, bags, line, just shit everywhere.

Well done, Matt, well done. Had a similar situation last year when, while working, I found a common garter snake that had managed to get itself stuck while passing through a large washer. It's body was too big to continue through and it was unable to back it's head out once it had gone through. The washer was for the bolts on an underground utility vault. I don't know how long the snake had been stuck, but it was pretty weak when I found it with it's head stuck in the vault and it's body still in the grass. I freed it from the vault, took it home and used my Dremel rotary tool and cut the washer off. Released the snake next to a nearby creek and the last I saw of it it was very enthusiastically swimming away. We humans get them into trouble so we can at least be humane and help them get out.

Way to go Matt! My buddy and I fish one the retention ponds in The Villages, Florida (Between Ocala & Orlando). A GBH has been trying to take our catches (Largemouths) from us. She (he?) is kind of a pest. Late last month she had something wrong with her left wing and couldn't extend it, it was always close to her body. After a week she was close enough to see that there was a lure with one treble caught in her body and one caught in her wing. I tracked down and contact a lady who helps injured birds. My buddy and I met her at the pond to capture the bird. After a 15 minute slow chase we finally cornered and netted her on someone's back patio. While the other two held her steady I cut the barbs off the hooks and got a rattle trap style lure out of her. The home owners had come to see what was going on and provided some antibiotic ointment to put on the wounds. A month later and she's flying fine and an even worse pest on trying to steal our catches. It's great to see.

Great job. That was a difficult recovery. Years ago in the 1990's I was out in my pontoon boat and saw a blue heron in an area with a lot of weeds struggling to stay afloat. I was able to lift him on the bow of the boat without much problem. His feet were entangled in mono. I was able to cut him free. But just like your bird he just lay there. I took him to a friend's cottage and put him in the yard. The friend and I shared a cup of coffee and chatted for about 20 minutes and he eventually flew away. I'm sure your's will recover too.
