I always wondered what that place was like, thanks for the tour Roman !!

Incredible to see how developed the Blue Lagoon area is today versus in 1979-80 when I first went there while serving at Naval Air Station (NAS) Keflavik. At that time basically you pulled off the road, walked over the lava field and used some rickety stairs to get into the lagoon without cutting yourself on lava. A lot more plush looking today! PS -Roman, thanks for posting the video!

I was at the Blue Lagoon in 1988, actually multiple times as I came to Iceland in May of 88 and left in October of 89. It was basically just a bath house I think and one time we came with a group and literally nobody was there.

This Blue Lagoon is a little too close for comfort to the nearby activities. The people will cross the bridge when it comes to if they have to run in the event an eruption hits the site. Life is too short to worry too much. This is beautiful and thanks for sharing Roman.

Life is too short to worry and I'll bet those visitors to Blue Lagoon do not worry too much. Life is full of potential hazards and at the same time there are no signs of an imminent eruption in the area of the power plant or Blue Lagoon.

Lovely looking place but I sure wouldn't get into the water right now! I know that no one knows for sure if, when or where another eruption will haapen. I just wouldn't want to be in the lagoon if that happens. Thanks ! Great video!

I always wondered what it it looked like inside and now I know thanks to you Roman! But I was very Surprised to see it open and also to see so many people in the water, when there's an impending eruption! Are they mad or what?!! 😮 Perhaps they want to be fried like bacon...mabe they want a new experience....Lord! You wouldn't catch me anywhere near it...yikes! It's open because of money....money means more than human lives so some people think. It's very sad thinking in my view. Lovely place though and I like the Lava Restaurant! Shame that it all might be history.
@michaeldeierhoi409611 ай бұрын
When you say "impending eruption" that implies an eruption in the area is inevitable which is not true. The most likely location of an eruption is to the east near the last eruption. This volcanic has a habit of threatening an eruption as there have been five previous volcanic intrusions over four years leading up to the December 18 eruption. The current intrusion is playing the same game. Meanwhile people want to get on with their lives and not live in fear. There is no impending eruption, however that could change on short notice. If you think it is crazy for people to be there then don't go. People can make their own choice.

What is the map of the distance between this area - and the big eruption that you covered a couple years ago? It seemed as though people had to walk very far from their cars to get to see it. I don't know the map at all. Thanks for your time in doing these videos for all of us.

Thanks for the video - amazing that people are taking the opportunity to use these facilities but I guess that Icelanders are used to earthquakes and lava eruptions.

A pleasant place in which to be boiled alive. How to cook a live lobster? Boil it for 10 minutes in salted water for the first pound of weight and an extra three minutes for each additional pound of weight. Volunteer lobsters! Or Ball Park Franks. They plump when you cook them! Ground is now 2 to 3 inches above what it was when the eruption happened in December. Were the cracks leading over to the 9 mile Grindavik Dyke welded shut? If so, could new cracks open going straight up? Be like the Jaws beach scene.

Going to bathe in a pool located directly over a magma chamber that could erupt at any moment is beyond stupid 😮
@michaeldeierhoi409611 ай бұрын
Then don't go, but you are mostly wrong to think that there could be an eruption underneath them at any moment. There would most likely be a warning in the form of earthquakes. And the next eruption is most likely near the previous last eruption and not near this area.
@Tugela6011 ай бұрын
@michaeldeierhoi4096 If pressure continues to build, when the rock cracks, the magma will come up EXTREMELY quickly. There will be very little warning, you will have a few minutes at best if it happens directly under the resort. Remember, in the December eruption although there was an earthquake swarm prior to breach, those were too small to feel, meaning anyone on the surface would not have been aware that anything was happening until the lava fountain suddenly appeared. There was an earthquake large enough to feel physically, but that happened AFTER the eruption had been going for 30 minutes and was associated with rifting that resulted from the initial eruption. It is not given that the eruption will happen in the previous location. It happened there before because weakness in the rock allowed the magma to move there instead of cracking the rock directly above, but if it is currently blocked, as appears to be the case, eventually the rock directly over the magma dome will fail and the eruption will happen there, which is directly below the blue lagoon/power plant area.
@michaeldeierhoi409611 ай бұрын
@@Tugela60 Those are all good points, however it is still uncertain when or where an eruption will occur. And given the history of this region of repeating magma intrusions since 2020 and only one small eruption I don't see any point of indefinitely closing Blue Lagoon on the uncertain possibility of an eruption there. The earthquakes before the last eruption were too weak to be felt, but perhaps the authorities monitoring the seismic activity could notify Blue Lagoon or the power plant of any concerning earthquake activity, but not knowing their process in that circumstance I'm only guessing.

If there is a low probability of an eruption in that immediate area why shouldn't they reopen?? Any future eruption would most likely give a warning.
