Hi riding is also so poor and surprised he is still alive to be honest. Those blue lights look like something off eBay, and the one tone siren isn’t effective at all. Seen at start guy in red fiesta nearly wiped him out because the long tone isn’t effective at alerting cars at junctions, that’s what the short tone works best for. I suspect there is no training or protocol for blue light running here. Blue lights back to base surely is not needed.
@0iangell3 жыл бұрын
@Owen Pollard i don’t dispute they do a great job but their riding is dangerous, not only to them but to other road users. In Scotland this is why blood bike charities were banned from using blue lights because people were not trained to an acceptable standard.

Why did you blue light it back to base?
@MRUMedic2 жыл бұрын
So going out on a limb here that was dreadful. Firstly the use of only single hi lo tone for the whole of the journey even when approaching hazards. The red car had you of changed sirens and approached the junction slower and with more caution would not have been so startled and would have not reacted in the way they did. The gold car emerging from your right at 2:40 no sirens or horn to warn of your presence. Then at 9 mins in as you go up the inside of the us approaching a roundabout you turn off your sirens - unsafe and plain daft. I would ask what blue light driving course you have done as that would be a fail on it for starters. The RTB blues is also not required. Then there is the fact that you are videoing in a private area showing the computer screen with potentially confidential information on it - breech of loads of Caldecott protocols alone. The handing over like that not even allowing him to put gloves on to take the packages out of the container as well - surely it should be swap a full container for an empty and let them empty it safely. And before anyone jumps on me I am a current blue light driver/rider ex assessor of blue light riding and this is exactly why I stepped away from the BB group as none are properly trained for blue light riding and when I raised this I was told it’s not my problem. It is expected that you hold an advanced riding qualification such as IAM or ROSPA but this does not teach you how to drive/ride on lights and sirens. I would have failed a rider based on that ride and referred back for further training.

They do not have the equipment for multiple tones of siren
@MRUMedic2 жыл бұрын
@@reece8151 if they have a siren then it will always have at least 2 different tones. It should not be doing blue light runs without this as there is a need to change the tone depending on what you are doing - i.e. approach to hazard quick tone and on open road slow tone. If they only have single tone then this would represent an issue of people becoming deaf to the one tone and increasing any risk of incident.

I am so glad I'm not the only one who cringed at those situations and the rtb on blues... I felt that the run was a blast it through as fast as possible for the adrenaline and back before the coffee was cold. In my opinion as a former BB there were too many liberties taken and unnecessary risks, not waiting for signs of deflection from other road users and barrelling through like a bull in a China shop... A blue light and siren is not a "hey get out of my way!" It is actually more of an "excuse me, I'm in a bit of a rush, would you mind letting me through please?" They are not an automatic exemption from the rules. Apologies if this offends, but I did this for almost a decade and would still be doing it now if it wasn't for my local NHS not trusting civilians for it after seeing reckless riders 😔

Even in the police you can't just drive everywhere with light bar and noise going. It has to be justified and, noted in the pocket note book as to why we felt it was justified. Otherwise you get done for speeding/dangerous driving. You blood volunteers do a cracking job normally. But here (without more context) I am not convinced that this was a legal use of the kit.

@@NEMESIS2030 I've never done blues because there 'might'be an emergency. Every time you activate kit, jump red lights and, exceed the speed limit, it puts you and the public at risk. It should only be done when there 'is' an emergency. There is no justifiable excuse for, there might be. Imagine hitting and killing a kid in this run. If you find out he was on blues to 'get back to base quickly'. Is that right? I'd say no. Every time I've activated kit in the past I've documented and justified it in a notebook and statement after.
