- Lagos Blue Line: A Glimpse into the Future
You won't believe how futuristic the Lagos Blue Line is! Picture this: a sleek metro system that promises faster, greener, and more convenient commuting. It's like something straight out of a sci-fi movie, but it's real, and it's transforming Lagos!
- Easy Breezy Boarding with Cowry Cards
Okay, let's talk convenience! Cowry Cards and electronic ticketing systems made hopping onto the Blue Line a piece of cake. No more fumbling for change or standing in long lines. You're in, and you're off to your adventure!
- Smooth Sailing Through Lagos
The ride was...smooth as butter! I felt like I was floating through Lagos, taking in the city's hustle and bustle from the comfort of my seat. It's a view you've got to see to believe.
- Going Green for a Cleaner Lagos
What's even cooler is that by riding the Lagos Blue Line, you're doing your bit for the environment. Less traffic, fewer emissions-it's a win-win for you and Mother Earth.
- Exciting Plans for the Future
The Lagos Blue Line has some epic expansion plans. They're going to connect even more neighborhoods, making it easier to commute and/or explore the city. Can you say "adventure time"?
- Let's Not Forget the Red Line
Oh, and here's a bonus-keep an eye on the Red Line! Lagos has big plans for it too. Imagine having two incredible metro lines at your disposal!
So, there you have it, my friends! My first ride on the Lagos Blue Line was an adventure of a lifetime. Keep an eye out for these popular search keywords if you want to dig deeper into the Blue Line:
- Lagos Metro
- Blue Line Rail Lagos
- Lagos Rail Network
- Lagos Mass Transit
- Lagos Public Transportation
- Lagos Transportation System
More info about the blue line:
The Blue Line (also known as the Lagos Rail Mass Transit) is a planned metro rail line in Lagos, Nigeria.
- The Blue Line will be part of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) network, designed to alleviate transportation challenges in Lagos, one of Africa's largest cities.
- The first phase with five stations and 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) of track opened on 4 September 2023. The full line is set to be 27 kilometres (17 mi) and is expected to carry 500,000 passengers a day.
- It is one of the proposed railway lines under the Lagos Rail Mass Transit project, which aims to develop an integrated rail-based public transportation system in Lagos.
- The Blue Line is expected to run from Marina to Okokomaiko, covering a distance of approximately 27 kilometers and serving several densely populated areas and transportation hubs in Lagos.
- The rail line is designed to help reduce traffic congestion, provide efficient and affordable transportation options, and promote sustainable urban development.
- The project is divided into phases, with the first phase focusing on the construction of infrastructure, stations, and rolling stock.
- The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) is responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit project.
- The Blue Line project represents a significant step in addressing the transportation challenges faced by the growing population of Lagos and is expected to enhance connectivity and accessibility within the city.

Much as this is great news, our problem is our horrendous maintenance culture. I often prefer to see the glass half full, but i, like a lot of Nigerians, have seen this happen time and time again. I'll bet (and i do hope this doesn't end up being the case) that the blue rail infrastructure will look very degraded a decade or two from now. It's a sad but honest commentary. Until Nigerians change how they treat public infrastructure, our joys at novel achievements such as this, will always be shortlived.

Well done Lagos. Watching from London. It was interesting seeing the views from the train and it brought back memories of my Molue travelling days in the 80’s (Yes I’m that old). I also watched this video with a twinge of sadness at realisation how much our leaders have failed us. Yes, this is a remarkable project but the bitter truth is it’s too late in coming and it’s very painful to watch how things are still at this elementary stage in 2023! The great Jakande of UPN back in 1979 had planned a similar Metro line before it got truncated by the Buhari coup of 1984. The corrupt thieving NPN federal government led by Shagari contributed to the failure of the project before the military annihilation. How things would have been much different if Awolowo’s UPN was at the helm of affairs. Nigerians need to know that’s when we lost our chance to become today in the leagues of Dubai and Singapore which hardly existed as they are today. Let’s be honest you waiting over 90 minutes just for the train to arrive is nothing to celebrate about in a city the size of Lagos.

You have done a huge service to the Lagos State Transportation System. I love the way you present the clip and your narration fits the video perfectly. Wow! Lagos has changed from the time I was there 4 decades ago. Thank you for this wonderful documentary about the development going on in Lagos. The metro line includes my youth area Marina and Balogun where we used to play in those days. Your clip is highly motivated and encouraged me personally to go back home and help out. Thank you and Jah bless. Greetings from Windy City in the U.S.

They don't have to include toilets in the coaches. People are going to abuse it, and the authorities will not be able to maintain it. There is nowhere in the world where intracity trains are run with toilets; not in London, not in Manchester, not in Barcelona. For all these places I have used the Metro.

While I congratulate the Lagos State Government on the Metroline initiative, the current train Time Table needs be reversed. The train should start running from Mile 2 (which is more residential) from 7am to Marina (which is predominantly commercial) than is presently the case. More people living at Mile 2, Orile, etc go to work at Marina and VI early in the morning.

Nigeria & Africa must allow the filming in public like other countries without people harrasing you. In Kenya they have legalized content creators to film around the cities to show to the world. It should be legal as long as you are not putting the camera right infront of people's faces in no less that 1 meter. Although most people will still try to stop you based on their criminal activities.

I'm not sure it is illegal by law (I don't know - I haven't looked it up), but sometimes people just don't like it when they feel like you are filming them.. which I can totally understand

It is Chinese style! Chinese metro lines is exactly what you see in Lagos however, the speed is different !! and the quality is different! Lagos metro is low budget the equipment is not the same like those that runs in Chinese top tier cities

Hi Shanice, thanks for your comment. I think 80% of things we use in our everyday life is made (partially) in China lol! Our phones, kitchen appliances, tv’s, laptops, airconditioners. Even the ‘luxury’ brands that claim their items are made in Europe for example… sometimes most of the process is being done in China and then they only add the finishing touches in Europe and say it is made there. Businesses all over the world set up branches in China to cut costs. In Amsterdam (where I also spent time) the new metro trains are made after Paris metro design.. when I looked into it that time I saw that Alstom (French train manufacturer) also set up a branch in China (about 60 yrs ago). So the ‘Chinese style’ you are referring to is most likely originally European design. The speed of the Lagos metro is low but they announced from the beginning that this is part of start-up phase and speed would increase. I don’t know about the quality of the train.. I guess everything can come in different grades of quality but I’m curious to know your source where it is claimed to be ‘low budget equipment ‘? Everything felt pretty solid/same as any other light rail I’ve used before but then again I’m not an expert at all.. Thanks for watching 🤍
