It's weird because my mom was super catholic so she was kind of like wtf are you watching. But friends of mine that grew up in non religious homes didn't or couldn't understand why my mom was so pissed. I thought it was kind of what ecw did, people did lose their collective shit though. Actually, there was a major difference between the two. While not everyone believe in Jesus (which is cool, you do you) it is noted in both biblical text and in Jewish histories such as Josephus, that Jesus was the only person crucified that had a crown of thorns stuck on his head. People got pissed over this angle more than the Taker angle because ECW chose to put a crown of thorns on ole boys head, which made a mockery of what a vast majority of the world believe in. I can see why people were mad about this. Also - people were mad about Taker too. The Catholic church sent letters and met with Vince about the incident and basically said they knew it was entertainment but that if they would lift the hands over the head instead of out to the side, it wouldn’t be so offensive. Hell, I’m not even religious and it hit me the wrong way when I saw it. There’s just some Things better left untouched. 🤷‍♂️

Raven was the voice of the disenfranchised, the poet of the macabre, & the martyr for society’s dysfunction. He was making Sandman feel his pain. Absolutely nothing was wrong with this. Imagine being offended during a wrestling show, which is a work, over an imaginary figure in the sky - or, in this instance, on a cross.
