Horrid job isn't it! I decided to do both my mk2 16v and mk3 16v at the same time. I did similar to you and tried a million ways. In the end I bought poly bushes as got the rotation wrong on the new rubber bush I bought and had to remove it. The slip by hand and it was absolute bliss after the hassle of getting the old ones out. I drilled out the bush and cut the outer sleeve on one axle. On the other axle I was so annoyed I burnt them out but the axle was fully off the car and in my garden. Good watch ans great for people to see this job. It is DIY but a mission and a half!

Do you think it would have been easier if you had a homemade tool that pushed the bushing out by fastening it.

@@ForexMoneyandCarsFMC no doubt! I got a proper kit for the second side, and it was much easier. Had I known they existed in the first place, I would have just bought one 😂

How to fix the negative camber? Is it possible to shimm it or do I have to replace the axle thingy entirely?

Absolute pig changing them! took me hours and I ended up burning the rubber out with oxyacetylene then using an air chisel to remove sleeve. Replaced with poly bush which slide very easily in and last a lot longer.

That’s a good idea RE air chisel. I have one of them, and didn’t think to use it!
