I traveled in the Cyclades with my family a few years back and took ferries from island to island and enjoyed it a great deal. Getting there was half the fun. The fast ferries were not nearly as enjoyable, because you see very little from the ship, but many people preferred those in order to get to the next island as quickly as possible. The process of embarking and embarking at each island is a fascinating process, including watching people soliciting customers for their accommodations.

As a travel agent said, Seajet is always late! Nothing fast about them!
@draiverx3 жыл бұрын
Yeah. The same. I always hear that Seajet is always late. Even hours. Blue Star however, at least in 12-14 journeys I had with them were always on time. Once they even managed to reduce almost all delay caused by rough sea. Debatable how safe it was, but they promised that will do their best to reduce the delay, considering that the ferry was supposed to arrive in Piraeus after midnight ....

What are the annual casualty figures for Greek ferry ooerations?
@antinimel2 жыл бұрын
Civilian deaths? Ferry accidents are really rare actually, I can't think of a figure but this year the only ferry accident was in February I think and it was a fire on board an Italy to Greece route that killed a few people. I haven't heard of any other accidents since.

I’d prefer the crew wait until the ship is a bit closer to shore before they start lowering the ramps.
@hp20843 жыл бұрын
Calm seas would allow that, chops and swells wont.
@Vinnie101a3 жыл бұрын
@@hp2084 : Your comment doesn’t make any sense. The ship was quite some distance from the docking point. Too far to be opening the ramp doors safely, regardless of the sea conditions. That practice, intended to speed up the process is dangerous and has caused several ferries to sink due to water ingress.
@hp20843 жыл бұрын
@@Vinnie101a my comment makes sense because in that calm sea there is no way of water to come so high as to enter the stern. Though, i agree its bad practice because sometimes, they might even try in bad weather.
@Vinnie101a3 жыл бұрын
@@hp2084 : Ok. I’ll go along with you. I just prefer all doors closed until it’s necessary to open. Ferry operators , like trucking companies, tend to push the envelope to save time and speed up turnover times.

@@Vinnie101a ships always do that in Greece and no such accident has occurred because of such a practice, because the ramps are high enough
