In case anyone wonders, having cut of every last leaf and stem, I repotted into a very slightly larger pot and kept moist. I now have around 19 new shoots varying up to just over three inches! Looks like this is going to be OK, if anyone else needs to restart one!

I'm going to try that as mine is not doing well. Yellow leaves and crispy brown. It was doing fine then suddenly took a turn. :(

I just bought one as a rescue and it’s been very finicky. Noticeably I need to add more humidity as the tips keep browning

My country calls them Breadfruit ferns ... make great hanging baskets luvs moisture but good drainage mature plants send out many air roots which as you know are essential coconut fibers they luv as well ... my take on them they enjoy being rootbound .. your thoughts ?

Hi! Is it important to leave the rhizome exposed at the soil level? I just repotted, it’s winter here in North America. I’m wondering if it’s because I buried rhe rhizome (only by about .5 to 1cm) or because it’s dormant. Thank you so much!
@HouseplantHacks10 ай бұрын
Yes, I believe the rhyiome needs to be on the surface, maybe you can brush the soil off to expose it?
@pseudoelectric8 ай бұрын
I did in fact expose the rhizome and now there are 4 new leaves! TY for the info.

hi there, i have two blue stars and they're doing nicely, but there's some old damage: gray-ish, dry-ish discoloration, dark brown on some tips or brown crisping, and sometimes a yellow-ed leaf that easily pops off. do you know what each of those indicates? too much sun, not enough water, too much water, not enough humidity? i can't figure it out and feel like a floundering miss marple trying to put it all together! also, should i remove those old damaged leaves?
@pseudoelectric11 ай бұрын
A lot of people say that blue star can be really picky about water. Hard water with a lot of minerals can cause the crispiest and dry edges.
@HouseplantHacks7 ай бұрын
Not enough water is often the case and hard water from taps is also an issue so rainwater helpss if you can get it.

Hey, and thank you for a r fee eta video! My blue star fern’s leaves are dropping and drying out. Do you know what could be wrong? Thank you!
@HouseplantHacks Жыл бұрын
It can be a lot of different things but for this plant it seems to be lavck of water most often, the roots get very dense and so it can dry outr quite quickly, make usre you give it a good water so it runs out the bottom of the pot for some time, they keep an eye on it over the next few dayas and see how long it takes to dry out again.

@@HouseplantHacks thanks so much! Will give that a try.

I've just bought one of these from a garden centre and being a bit of an amateur I picked the one with the nicest foliage and didn't look properly at the base. When I got it home and looked properly it looks like its got some kind of moss at the bottom at one side. Some of the front have grown through this so its obviously not affected it's growth, but it just looks weird. Is that normal? I know that the Rabbits foot fern gets those furry roots so wondered if it was like that?
@darrellcampbell5022 Жыл бұрын
And I've just got to the bit where you explain what they are 🤣

You didn’t show the update of the first, seemingly. It’s the one that you repotted due to the soil drying out too quickly. Please do the update if you have not done so. Many thanks 😊
