Ty is so humble. He has 30+ years of experience keeping blue tongues, he literally has a blue tongue in its late 20s right now, and yet he says if people do things differently from him and it's working for them, he has nothing to say. It really puts things into perspective when you see younger/less experienced KZbinrs who have had their pets for one-four years or so and they call anything other than what they do "wrong". I think we all need to strive to be more like Ty.

@azaleapoison35935 жыл бұрын
I grew up in Western Australia and the Shingleback that you showed we would call a Bob-Tail Lizard, their tail is shaped like their head to try and confuse predators, specially birds because from the sky it wouldn't tell which side is its head. I have held a few wild ones because my dad while working out in the bush would find half dead ones that were infested with ticks and he'd bring them home to carefully remove the ticks and we'd feed them to get strength back from loss of blood, then he'd take them back to their home for release. It's the only time you can really hold a wild one is when they are weak from ticks coz normally they are feisty lil guys!

Blue tongues definitely make really good pets. I use to look after native Australian animals and birds that were hurt or lost there mum and I had a few baby blue tongues over the years that imprinted on me so they couldn't be put back into the whild but ended up some of the best pets I have ever had and they are just a easy animal to look after. If you live in the right area with the right weather and humidity you actually don't need all this kind of stuff for them to be a very healthy happy lizards. Mine lived in my house and just ran around with the dogs and cats had a little cat bed that was kinda like a fluffy cave and they went out for fun in the garden or out for little walks. I think they are the easiest reptiles to have as a pet if you live in the right area for them.

I love that Ty is putting in the good word for blue tongue skinks! The are such underrated lizards in the pet trade here (the US). I just saw a blue tongue lizard that lives in my back yard. It's been there for years, but I only see it maybe once a year because it is good at hiding. It hissed at me while poking its blue tongue out, then crawled into bushes. It always scares me when I see it because it is so large and looks like a snake. I live in Sydney suburbia, very built up, lots of houses and no forests anywhere nearby, weird how a large wild reptile like that just randomly lives in my back yard in the suburbs. I pretty sure there is more than one as well.

my guys, live in Australia also so in the country parts, we often see "shingle backs" but we aussies call them bobtails. We see more bobtails then actual blue tongues. We have lots visits from both blue tongues and bobtails due to our dogs water bowls. When i always get close to the bobtails, not so much blue tongues. If i have time I'll feed them apples or other fruits. The dogs ignore the lizards when they come into our yard and walk to lay down while they do as they want in our yard. Bobtails are more friendly and calm compared to blue tongues.

I love Tiliqua. but this video surprised me Kenan; I thought you were against this style of keeping. This is not how you care for these animals. They do require UV. They shouldn't be fed dog/cat food as a staple. The Tiliqua rugosa had a better diet, why is that diet not replicated throughout the rest of the animals in the room?! I breed Tiliqua (along with many many other reptiles). They have UV, I feed them mixed greens, locusts, crickets, earthworms, morio worms, beetle grubs, fruit, crested gecko diet, baby mice, and yes cat food. But my point is these animals require more variety. I respect Ty for his work with iguanas and chelonia and he should stick to that. its obvious that he struggles to understand how to care for animals inside. He should contact the Austrian breeder of the Iguana delicatissima he has for advice on how to care for things correctly inside. That's all we can do here in Europe as our climate in most places is not good enough to allow for outside enclosures.
@connorrudd20707 жыл бұрын
I'm from Australia and most breeders keep them very similar over here. yes UV is a benefit to their health and more variety is always a plus but this is similar to the care they get here in Australia.
@bongratunrthdoxtrsh53247 жыл бұрын
KaaPlaaw Jesus fucking Christ ya moron,they have bigger than needed enclosures,hiding spots,calcium, food that they would eat in the wild,etc.calm the fuck down. also have you ever kept them? no.have you ever watched them in the wild no,so stfu.last thing,with the calcium,they don't NEED a uvb light.yes,it would help.but they don't need it if they have the calcium.

I dont really like morphs either, I like an odd one here and there, and I do have a leucistic leopard gecko that I bought from a corner pet store when I was fourteen and an albino kingsnake that was rescued from a glue trap. But one of the morphs I just cant understand is the albino blue tongue skink. It doesn't have a blue tongue! That's a deal breaker for me.
@hamishharker71537 жыл бұрын
Can I ask how Ty can get documentation for legal importation of Australian reptiles considering that they're a banned export? As the blue tongues aren't being imported for a zoo (or anything of that description) but instead for a private breeder, I find it difficult to believe they were legally imported. I am happy to be corrected on this. Just curious as I am Australian and have heard of no legal way for private keepers to get their hands on our wildlife.
@marcuswilliams61067 жыл бұрын
I feel the same way. This is sketchy as fuck.
@alexandermiller27947 жыл бұрын
It's not too sketchy. But Australia has reptiles that the hobby in America would kill for. You can't get an Aussie perentie or lace monitor in America which sucks
@hamishharker71537 жыл бұрын
Alexander Miller I'd say it's very sketchy since no private breeder can import them at all. Mate we can only keep Aussie stuff, Your reptile selection is far greater than ours (not that I'm complaining, just fact). A guy here just spent 4 months in prison for keeping created geckos and a chameleons. Kenan has always advocated for captive bred reptiles and to stop the illegal trade of reptiles but yet will close a blind eye to his mate doing it? I just don't respect that. I respect him greatly overall and I love his channel and seeing tys facility is awe inspiring. Just can't go on videos saying its bad to smuggle yet say nothing when your mate does. #weak

He got them legally. Does not matter how the person he got them from got them. All blue tongued skink morphs are smuggled from Australia to Asia. From Asia they either to straight to the U.S or Europe to the U.S. Same how Australian gecko species end up in Europe.

Do you happen to know when the ban was enacted? It seems like it would have happened early on in the hobby, but relatively recently. Like the 80's.
