It is much more generally useful than the original ring tester.

Brilliant bit of kit, bought one from Vitor at EVB, also already own the EVB ESR CX Case ESR Meter and look forward to buying the Talking Blue2 ESR Meter when it's available from Vitor, thank you so much for making this possible in Europe. Your designs are amazing Bob and keep up the amazing work :) Greetings from South Wales UK.

The old Anatek one or the even older Dick Smith version? They're calibrated to give sensible indications on LOPTs and similar inductors but this one's more universally applicable (we hope!).

@@ZilogBob The Anatek version. I figured if there's doubt in the reading I can look at the waveform with an oscilloscope though.

Hi Bob Do u think it could test motor winding's as well, IE check them for short... Thanks Graham..

G'day Graham. I've tried it on electric fans and even a washing machine and it gives sensible readings. Of course it would help if you had a good motor to compare a suspect motor against.

@@lupojacobo9892 We're still trying to get this thing to market. Hopefully it won't be much longer now. I've also designed a "no frills" version of it using ordinary CMOS components which anyone could build, and I'm hoping to test a couple of prototypes. If they all work OK, I'll put all the information on my website and do a video of it. (Ainda estamos tentando colocar isso no mercado. Esperançosamente, não vai demorar muito agora. Também projetei uma versão "simples" dele usando componentes CMOS comuns que qualquer um poderia construir, e espero testar alguns protótipos. Hi Simmo. Yes, EVB confirms that it's the correct price. I expect that a lot of it goes into the shipping charge.

When will this tester be available for USA purchase? Maybe sell them through Anatek or if not through Amazon? Portugal supplier will not accept paypal or ship outside of europe.

Thanks Randy! I wish that the COVID situation was not complicating everything, and that my situation was more under control so I could concentrate on these "Blue2" instruments.

Is this tester still available in europe?
@ZilogBob3 жыл бұрын
Hi there Ian. Thanks for asking. There have been lots of problems due to COVID-19 and now there's a technical problem which we're working through. Once that's fixed, you should be able to get hold of one at last. Could you please check back in a couple of weeks? Cheers!

@ZilogBob Can I buy a programmed PIC and make my own? (The whole units are out of stock).
@ZilogBob3 жыл бұрын
Hi. Thanks for asking. If you're in Europe, EVB in Portugal should be able to sell you a complete unit. Unfortunately I don't have any way of programming the microcontrollers other than via the In Circuit Programming connector which is on the tester's PCB. I'm hoping that these testers will become available from another 2 suppliers before too much longer.

@@ZilogBob I contacted EVB and they don't have any. For me this is a one off test so I will knock something up and see if I can make my flyback ring. Thx
@ZilogBob3 жыл бұрын
@@NivagSwerdna It's not hard to make an inductor "ring". I was almost going to suggest that you build something yourself. The instruction manual at tinyurl.com/ringinst has the schematic on the last page. All you need to do is roughly duplicate the part around Q1 with a mosfet like a 2N7000 and preferably a polypropylene capacitor (lower losses) for C4, feed its gate with pulses of maybe 200ms high/20ms low from a 555 or similar, and observe the inductor waveform with your Rigol 'scope. If you get dozens of "rings" then your flyback is probably OK. If only a few "rings", it's probably got shorted turns. Good luck with that!🙂

@@ZilogBob Using the schematic and a couple of couple of free samples from Microchip I knocked one up... works really well. Thanks!
@NivagSwerdna3 жыл бұрын
The only thing I noticed is that for transformers with very high inductance (e.g. a Critchley 9856 I had lying around) you get very low numbers because the period of oscillation is so high. But even with that one... which gives 02 rings.... if you short the secondary it goes down to 01.

@@clintondekock9935 Well.... I'm hoping to make these things commercially. If I give away the micro code, that hands the whole design to the Chinese to copy.
