As part of the launch event for Britain's newest steam locomotive, LBSCR H2 Marsh Atlantic 32424 Beachy Head the Bluebell Railway held a Brighton Works Gala over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
Locomotives associated with Brighton Works were in operation for the event.
The original 32424 was constructed at Brighton Works in 1911. Sadly she was withdrawn and scrapped in 1958. Now she has been re-born at Sheffield Park, constructed in the Atlantic House shed.
Bulleid Pacific 34059 Sir Archibald Sinclair, recently returned to service after a long period out of service due to boiler problems, represented a class of loco also built at Brighton in 1947.
"Terrier Tank" Stroudley A1, 72 Fenchurch represented the popular class of Tank engines, 50 of which were built at Brighton.
Riddles 4MT Standard Tank 80151 was running as sister 80154, the last locomotive to be outshopped from Brighton Works in 1957.
I had originally intended to visit for the first day of the event but changed my plans when stormy weather conditions were forecast for the area.
I visited for the second day, Sunday 25th August which was blessed with sunshine. Later in the day it did become rather windy and I some of my shots have a bit of wind noise on them.
Here is a compilation of shots from this excellent event taken at Sheffield Park and Horsted Keynes. The video also features some on train footage taken in the observation coach right behind 32424 as she tackled the banks.
Thank you to everyone involved for putting on a great Gala.
Congratulations to everyone involved in the creation of 32424. She is a credit to the Railway Preservation movement.
