You said "at least". While I can't stand these types of comments, you did the 1 thing I've been trying to tell people to do, which is, to say something like "at least" or "when I typed this", that way, the comment stays accurate. Also, it relates to the video. At least your comment was the least annoying form possible. (Just a note, I gave your video a thumbs up and I'm subscribed and love your videos. I just get annoyed too easily).

Lol it's high quality it has bug parts. I have the same space problem. I'm am going to have to try Blueberry! My go to for honey is currently out rt now😫 . But I'm getting some fireweed honey that's a new one for me. Thanks as always for the great vid
@TheSpecialJ113 жыл бұрын
The bug parts will become a part of the lees, and they mean that the honey hasn't lost any of its flavor through processing. It's so funny to think what's high quality for flavor is high quality for selling honey on shelves. I have a local beekeeper who sells honey so unprocessed, a lot of people wouldn't recognize it as honey because it's white and opaque.
@Dave_en3 жыл бұрын
@@TheSpecialJ11 you need to mix the honey in water by stirring vigorously till everything dissolves. Then filter the liquid through fine cloth. It will be as pure as processed honey. Even it's better as no nutrient is lost.👍
@Dave_en3 жыл бұрын
@@TheSpecialJ11 if you get white honey, probably it's cream honey or mustard honey. It's just another variety. It solidifies just like clarified butter.
@TheSpecialJ113 жыл бұрын
@@Dave_en No, it's not creamed. Whatever honey their bees are making crystallizes very easily and so it becomes white once this happens. They do nothing to prevent that, unlike a lot of honey you'll find at the grocery store. That's how I know it's very raw.
@spikelove95333 жыл бұрын
@@Dave_en I'm ok with bee parts. They will sink to the bottom when I syphen the Mead off the lees. When I was very young I remember eating some apple sauce my grand mother had made and canned her self. There was a ant in my portion, and I showed her in disgust. She very madder of factly informed me that's how you know it's homemade. That made perfect since to me at the time so I pushed the ant aside and finished my yummy home made apple sauce lol

Question: Would you possibly lose some of the sweetness from the backsweetened honey if you cold crashed? I'm wondering if the dissolved, unfermented honey would fall out of solution at cold temperatures.

I’ve got some Crystal’s Blueberry Blossom honey on its way. And I’m using 100% blueberry juice instead of water. The juice was $6/32oz at Walmart. Bought 5 of them.

Hey, I wanted to ask you, how do you decide the ABV of your traditional meads? The range for traditional meads is so wide (8-14%) I have trouble just picking one OG value. How do you make a decision? For instance, how did you come to 1.080 OG for this one?
@ManMadeMead2 жыл бұрын
Normally just by the booziness you want or the body you want. Generally higher abv brews have bigger bodies, so lots of traditionals seek to have big bodies!

I had a commercial mead made with blueberry blossom honey. I definitely agree with the cotton candy smell but the taste of it just was not my thing. Had an artificially sweet taste and just an overall mustyness I wasn't a fan of. Hesitant to try using blueberry honey myself because of it.
@ManMadeMead3 жыл бұрын
I think that’s totally fair! There are a ton of different honeys in the world and I think you definitely don’t have to like them all!
@cheekiebreekie50143 жыл бұрын
does anyone know how to find the abv% in your meads and wines?
@ManMadeMead3 жыл бұрын
You need a hydrometer! Take the gravity reading at the beginning of your mead before it ferments and then after it finishes fermenting. Then use this formula: Starting Gravity - Final Gravity x 131.25 = ABV. Example: 1.100 - 1.000 x 131.25 = 13.125% ABV

Depending on the yeast - the primary can definitely be vigorous! I agree it can be tough to use fruit in the primary!

I always find it strange that everyone measures honey by weight, not by volume - but we measure other liquids like water by volume. When I buy honey I always feel a little shorted, it’s a liquid at least when it’s not crystallized… so it should be by volume… Anyways I love your channel I just would like to see some conversions to volume by the community in general… might make me seem petty, not trying to be, it just makes more sense I think…
