I moved to NH and I still visit the Danvers store for all my birding needs. Henry is most helpful with addressing wildlife issues. The store is filled with a wonderful selection of backyard birding ideas and gifts. I enjoyed your video Henry. 😊

I am about to have a go at making my own, as I started feeding birds about 3 years ago, I had a couple of blue tits visiting my garden, now I have at least 8-10 different species, this information was invaluable, thank you 👍👍👍🐦🕊

How did the open tops with the plastic on them do?
@maniachill30692 ай бұрын
The sunlight shining through that plexi-glass will heat up the inside of that bird house and quickly become too hot inside for chick survival.
@WAHollier542 ай бұрын
Plexiglass will not conduct more heat than what is already illuminating. And as he said, blue birds sometimes nest in the open in the elements on top of rotting wood posts, so heat and other weather conditions do not bother them.

I modified a BB house by adding a 2" hole on the top and it definitely keeps the sparrows away. The box is not under a tree, it is mounted on a free standing pole in the open. should I be concerned about covering it when it rains? Or can the birds deal with it on their own? Thanks!

How do I keep rain from leaking through the WBU hinged roof house?
@wildbirdsunlimiteddanversm10653 жыл бұрын
The hinge is a piano hinge so very little water will get though and a bluebirds nest is mostly grass so water will run right though it. Bluebirds used to nest in the top of wooden fence posts that rot from the top down so they are very used to getting wet without harm

Hi, how effective are houses with the slot type opening as compared to the standard 1.5" hole when attracting eastern bluebirds? Thanks
@wildbirdsunlimiteddanversm10654 жыл бұрын
I believe that they are as effective as a 1.5” opening but if I were looking for a sparrow resistant house check out the open top house as our customers feel that they are more resistant

I was always told that the hole should be 1 1/4"
@wildbirdsunlimiteddanversm10653 жыл бұрын
Hi Dan, A bluebird needs 1 1/2 opening. They are too big to fit through 1 1/4. 1 1/4 is appropriate for a nuthatch

FYI, the commercial played was very violent. Especially considering what’s just happened in Texas.

He's not responsible for the commercial. It's what you watch the most of that gets advertised to you. It's different for everyone.
