They are so precious. So what do you do with the ones you dont keep? At what age do you sell them? We raised pygmies yrs ago when we lived in Nevada. I had one doe, one neutered boy. After I bred my doe, she had two babies, one doeling and one buckling. They were so much fun. They were both bottle babies. Bottle babies are the best. They get attached to you really quick. Cant wait to see the next ones up. 💜

There's so much love and compassion given to the herd, from the doelings and bucklings to the does and the bucks. The amount of care, attention, and genuine affection you and your family have for them in my opinion is the heart of animal husbandry. Yes, they are making money (some) for you, but look at their lives! Free of care, of want, of predation, of vexation (except perhaps from one another) they are very, very blessed goats. I'm enjoying the videoes so much, thank you for making them.

We try and put human feelings on animals, but goat feelings and human feelings are not equal. The biggest thing is to make sure both the moms and babies feel loved and are taken care of. And, this farm does both very very well.
@Nirrrina
@Nirrrina Жыл бұрын
Exactly! They do have feelings but they aren't necessarily the same as a human. Also pretty much most were bottle fed themselves. So they probably think that it's a perfectly normal thing to just give the babies over to the humans after a day.

It's a real thing! Some goats get it worse than others but just massage it out. Fill and drain, fill and drain. It will go away :)
@petgranny194

Real for humans too but humans aren't told to massage it out and instead are, sadly, told to quit. While massage can be uncomfortable/painful, the success is worth it.

Usually you won't get this udder size to suddenly happen because it's all genetics. Crystal has some top of the line genetics which allows them to have massive udders like these. On the second round it can get a bit bigger, but that's usually the max size at that point. So if you want larger udders you'd have to breed for it and purchase good lines from people like her. They're expensive though, so don't feel like you suddenly have to go and get great lines. Good luck with your breeding!

Y'all are doing a great job and I'm loving learning about goats! Thank you!

@Paula Hobbs I was thinking the same when Crystal was explaining why she separates, etc. Like, wow, random people are on the internet getting mad/bothered by what's best for HER goats 🐐. She has many years of experience, and people still feel the need to say something. I have looked up to Crystal for the many, many years since I've been watching! Those goats are her family! She lovesss them. Why would she ever do anything that would hurt them! You are AMAZING Crystal! Thank you for the many many year's of experience and knowledge that you have shared with us... I hope I can learn even more for many more years! 🙏

When you massaged that udder, I had physical flashbacks to that feeling of my milk letting down. Happy memories. I loved being a nursing mom. My babies were SO FAT! They definitely preferred my right side, and my left was so much smaller. I had to pad my left bra cup to look like a balanced person. I used to call it "Lonely Lefty."

Not to mention that some mother goats don't want to take care of all of the babies, so if you didn't pull the babies there is a chance that they won't make it if the mother rejects them or like with Dinkey almost freeze to death. I think you guys do great with pulling mammas and babies early, and they never seemed stressed about it so I don't think it's that big a deal to separate.

Hello my Blue Cactus Dairy Goat Family. You are right the utters are very very important. Plus if the eat only on one side the tit gets so engorged that it actually hurts the mom. I think you Gus do the correct thing. I have said they are your family members you have much time energy care compassion sometime tension and heartache depending on what goes on. It is easy to bottle feed the younger they are and it does hurt them but like you said it makes them more comfortable with being held, being around humans and you make sure they get their colostrum right away. I just love how you care for them yes they make you money but they are family and your baby fur kids in the first place. They will eventually take the bottle if not right away. As always BCDG be safe, enjoy and live your best life and God Bless. Can’t wait for the next kids to be born. I just love those little babies that sre so adorable and many are really gorgeous.

@audreyabdo7719

I wish I could lose weight like the Nigerians do after kidding. Too late now I’m talking about their loss. The bottle feeding is better for a doe that has so many as they tear their ma’s teat to pieces. My son loved nursing but he didn’t abuse my nipples and I had so much milk. I had to sadly stop nursing cause even with my milk he didn’t like a bottle. I was lucky I worked where people liked my work and gave me more time. I tried every nipple and finally it was nuck or Nuk that got him to take my milk in a bottle. At about 8-9 months he was wanting my food instead of baby food so I made his meals and interchange my milk with Enfamil and then we went to regular milk.

That was very interesting 😊 I don't show my goats but I am still considering pulling kids next time and either bottle raising them or selling them off. My doe's udder is all scarred up because her kids bit her pretty bad. They made bloody sores all over her teats and udder that are finally healing.

I understand separating the babies early for show goats, I don't usually separate mine except at night after 2 weeks old. But this year one of mine (a sannan/nubian cross) had triplets and they started to really tear up her udder. In just a few days after starting the separating at night they made a few open wounds on her udder. I had to pull all three off of her and bottle feed them.
