Your link to Chicago screws actually goes to heat gun. Thank you. Well done video.

I would personally set the grommets after forming the sheath. That way you're not taking a chance of the kydex pulling away from the grommets. And a cheap goodwill toaster oven works fantastic for small batches of kydex. But good video nonetheless.

yeah me as well . its alot easier to mold the kydex around the knife in the press first then start drilling it and putting in the grommets and finish shaping it

Thanks for the links. Just set up for leathercrafting but the kydex intrigues me as well. Had snaps and screw rivits which are like the chicago screws but was about to search for gromets, those eyelets look sturdier. I don't know what kind of sclvent works with kydex, but I was in construction/remodeling most of my life. The vinyl windows would sometimes come scratched. If you lightly sand the scratch and buff it with a little lacquer thinner on a cloth rag, it melts/reforms the vinyl like factory finish. Looks perfect. Might work with kydex for rough or scraches, say lacquer or acetone maybe? On most plastics you can bring back factory sheen with the heatgun. Just some thoughts! Nice work! Now I've got to try it.

Oooh you might be able to soften the whole surface with solvent, then stamp cool designs into it too

Looks really good. And the knife is held in there very secure. I so prefer a good belt loop like you made. A lot of people like those Tek-Loks. Belt loop is my way to go. I got a couple of Mora sized knives I have to make sheaths for them. Thanks for this instructional video, it will help me.

Nice one but I wonder why you didn't include the belt loop with Kydex as part of the sheath?

I've never seen eyelets put in before the final shape press. Also, your webbing would look 100% better if you cut it with scissors and used a lighter on the edges!

What kind of foam are you using? Wonder if I can get here in Asia
@lindboknifeandtool
@lindboknifeandtool 3 ай бұрын
Use the foam sold in hardware stores for your knees. Sometimes in hardware, sometimes in the garden section. It’ll have a little handle cutout usually. Let me know if that translated well and made sense

@@lindboknifeandtool is there any specific brand that you used? Is it heat resistant?

i suppose the puzzle rubber matt will do the trick?
@lindboknifeandtool
@lindboknifeandtool 24 күн бұрын
@@apdbarat769 no, not any specific brand, just what I found at a hardware store as a knee pad. It takes impressions a little after lots of presses but not enough to matter. And if it did, flip it. Remember to get something as thick as possible so it can conform around the handle the best. The ones I bought had a handle cut from them like a cutting board. Around 1 1/4” - 1 1/2” and blue if that matters. I think they were $12 a piece, but I could’ve gotten away with one. Another design I want to try is using one, and folding it like a taco to press them. Might help with taco style sheaths.

QUESTION: I see you have .080 thickness in this project. What thickness of Kydex have you had the best results with? I appreciate the video. I'm just getting started with kydex, and a couple of your videos have already helped.

.06 is easier to mold and get definition but .08 is sturdier but not a big difference in the two

Where did you get that tool cart and black rubber mat, that you're working off of? Seems like a good work bench.

Sorry man I got the cart at a yard sale and I have no idea what brand it is, and the rubber mat was just a commercial doorway mat that I cut up to fit the cart. Yea it does work really good.

I take back my previously stated comment you are right being deep dose not effect it coming out do you feel the 1 clamp worked as well as 2? Or no difference.
