Agreed, I've been running my G3 platform from PTR a little under two years now in all sorts of training events, run and guns, and two gun competitions filled to the brim with AR platforms in both 5.56 and 308. And it doesn't seem to matter, be it rain, mud, snow, sand or shine, it keeps up just fine. Train long and hard enough on something and you can run it just as effectively, if not moreso than a lot of the newer cool guy stuff people tend to gravitate towards nowadays thinking they can buy their way into becoming a skilled shooter. (Not that I'm implying everybody who buys that stuff is utterly incompetent or anything, there are people with that stuff who are leagues above what I'll ever be, but my point is that they actually trained to reach that level of skill instead of arguing semantics on platforms, gear, etc. online with strangers.)

I love my G3 and Fal rifles. Battle proven and plenty of spare parts available. My go to is a G3K. The G3 is the only rifle that continues to run without an extractor, because of the fluted chamber. It's fully floated barrel allows for moa accuracy with good ammo. The Spuhr stock, heavy buffer, and decent compensator mitigates recoil to equal AR10 levels, if that's a concern. I've owned G3 and Fal rifles since the mid 1980's and have never found recoil to be an issue. The fact that they run without problem in any situation is of primary concern to me.

@MTMILITIAMAN7.6210 ай бұрын
For a civilian application, the battle rifle is often the more pragmatic solution. There really isn't a scenario where a civilian is going to go looking to become decisively engaged in a protracted gunfight. Absent supporting fires and accompanied only by friends and family, it is always going to be in our best interest to avoid conventional infantry action. Instead, we should emulate scout and recon units, remaining undetected and avoiding contact to the extent it is possible, and refusing to lose the initiative when not possible. Quality is more important than quantity, because volume is fine, but accuracy backed by ass is final. The only gunfights won as a civilian are the ones we avoid, but if forced to fight, hit them hard and get out. A 16 inch AR-10 is about perfect for such applications as it offers ergonomics and manual of arms many Americans are familiar with, good accuracy and reliability, and a ready supply of parts and accessories that allow it to be configured as needed. Likewise, the .308 is a near perfect match for this role; it is an efficient case that does well from shorter barrels, it packs a big enough punch to not require a lot of velocity to be terminally effective, can cleanly take all North American game, provides excellent range, and is readily available in quantities that allow it to be trained with and stockpiled.

Calling a 7.62x39 round a "fake big boy round" is actually an Oxymoron.. since technically speaking.. the Soviet made 7.62x39 and 7.62x54R are the ONLY .30 caliber projectiles that measure .310 - .312 diameter when all others like .30 carbine.. 7.52x51.. .300 Blk.. 30-06.. 300Win Mag.. 30-30.. and all other .30 calibers made in North America measure only .308 diameter.. so which one is really the "big boy round"..? A longer case and more powder only gives you faster speeds and longer distances.. but bullet size is bullet size.. and the Soviets understood this.

I'm just glad the modern Battle Rifle concept on the civilian side is spreading, I told it to Chrisky and at first he mocked it, then he tried it and liked it. I truly do think for civilians it has more usage than an AR15(not that those are bad, it's just 308 and 6.5 creedmoor I feel are better for civilians). And in the case of a 16in 308 people forget the Scar 17 has exactly that, and no one has questioned the Scars combat effectiveness

16 inch is the single most slept on length for 308. Its just damn perfect for carbine type stuff. You can find people making hits out to 800 with little trouble.
@georgewhitworth974210 ай бұрын
I kinda debate that idea, almost exclusively because of the price of the ammo itself. 7.62 ain't cheap. Other things I'm not a fan of is the confusing-at-first aspect of AR10 compatability, or lack thereof. Which uppers can fit which lowers, AR10 vs. LR-308, DPMS Gen II vs Gen III... As well as the 6.5 Grendel/6mm ARC offer near identical ballistics and prices without having to switch entire platforms, just simply swap uppers. As for the SCAR point, SCAR's themselves are a tad overrated, imo. Especially for the asking price. They tend to have weird issues like triple feed and stuck casings in the upper area. I think the battle rifle concept is a good one for limited/optional use. If you had to grab one gun for when things go down, an AR10-ish system is a pretty nice one to have for patrols, hunting, DMR-ish roles, up-armored combatents, etc. But for most civvies, even in most realistic scenerios, the AR-15 is the most practical rifle one can have, while the AR-10 is second place, mostly to cost associated to running one.
@coltonowens274210 ай бұрын
@@georgewhitworth9742 It absolutely takes way more work to get an AR-10 going. I spent a good while learning the differences between AR-10, LR-308 etc etc. The receiver compatibility isn't even the biggest hurdle. Gas port location changes are also a factor, and that might be one of the biggest reasons homebrew rifles don't run right. Manufactures will make a barrel "LR-308 spec", (also called dpms) but then place the gas port on the true AR-10 spec location. A good old AR-15 is the better set it and forget it solution for sure.

Love the amount of satire and sarcasm in the intro. I (six feet at one-sixty hitting the gym five days a week) grew up shooting nothing smaller than good old three-oh-hate. However I do enjoy my carbine cartridges very much. Granted I absolutely refuse to use 5.56 past 400 meters. Your mileage may vary. Gimme a battle rifle though and I am always on target faster and with better groupings. Don't know why. You would think I would be more accurate with something with little to no recoil. However Your setup with no experience with battle rifles is actually solid. Like the carbine/AR15 they are always evolving especially to the wants of the individual. I run hybrid flash/comps on all my battle rifles but all my carbines are running closed tine style flash hiders. My OSW is my absolute favorite battle rifle right now. I highly advise getting a muzzle brake for it before you take it to the range. Learned that the hard way. Beat me like a redheaded step child and ate every dot I had including my eotech. Never knew you were a ranger before this as I've only heard of you in passing. You, my man, are _serious._ Personally, an Aero frame with a 20" Wilson Combat barrel, topped by a PA GLx 4-16x R-Grid 2B, in a 20MOA mount, with a piggyback Holosun 507C x2 for just in case, Scoutlight Pro DF Turbo out front, Cryptic Coatings Black BCG, and for the drip, a Hera Arms CQR stock, in black and tans. =)

Welcome to the club. Don't fix what is not broken. Look into the Springfield Armory M1A Scout. I run a 1-6 LPVO. I changed the bolt catch which will operate like an AR-15 now. And add a larger mag release paddle. On the Scout rail is where I attached the flashlight at a 45° angle. That system has been in service for a long time. That's IF I HAD ONE.

I wouldn't stress about a 16" tube on a .308. The Brits have been using LMTs with 16" pipes as sharpshooter rifles for years with excellent results. They've even been pressed into the sniper role due to .338 ammo issues taking the L115 out for a while.

LMT is top of the line stuff though

Honestly you're better off in a guerrilla sense with battle rifles to enable yourself to execute far ambushes which is essentially the bread and butter of insurgent warfare where you are unable to decisively engage the enemy. Well that and the good old fashioned Irish good morning.

3-0-Hate 😂 thats awesome! I have a 20" STG-58 FAL and LaRue tOBR, but both are pretty heavy and picked up a SCAR H a while back. Hated the SCAR for years, but now its like my favorite rifle, fairly light and super accurate. At least at the moment its my "go to" battle rifle/DMR its totally over priced, but I love it!
@wolfgang_h3t10 ай бұрын
I'm hoping the SCAR gets a 'second life' so to speak when the patent expires, especially the 5.56 ones. I love mine, but FN really holds them back with their prices, lack of replacement parts etc

I have a Stag .308, and most recently the MCX Spear in 7.62×51. I agree with another comment i saw; if you're 6'2 and 220lb then a battle rifle is equivalent to a typical AR 5.56 for ppl of smaller stature. The Spear is a pig beast though.. no denying it. A good brake or supressor tames the beast within. Thankyou for the vid. Salute.🫡 😈💥💥💥

MTMILITIAMAN7.62 raises an excellent set of points as to how civilian use favors battle rifle philosophy....in add on to what he said a civilian in the situation likely to develop will often involve an enemy using vehicles, not armored vehicles....the .308 round can really make a difference engaging vehicle borne adversaries. Urban action as well, walls and masonry don't hold up to .308 well. Another part of the formula. Great video.
@1robertcourtney10 ай бұрын
Crazy thought bro, is your cheek riser on backwards? You said it interferes with the charging handle, but if it is a GBRS which it looks like, if it were turned around it should not have that same interference.
@buff34x9 ай бұрын
LaRue makes a cheek riser for the magpul stock that allows for the charging of an AR regardless of the stock's position.

I’ve had an M14 since high school. When you could still get a Chinese M14 for 450 bucks. And I’ve had a PTR91 for a few years. But I built a 16” AR-10ish last year. It’s amazing. The only real downside over a 5.56 is the ammo weight. And if you’re carrying anything less than a combat load, like just about everybody, that’s not really an issue.
@woodsghost908810 ай бұрын
"You can find ammo at Walmart" is not actually a valid argument. You need to have stuff stashed. If you don't have it on hand, you don't have it. People who plan to buy ammo at Walmart have to hope their friends have some set back some place. I get people will buy a box or 2 every payday. I'm totally for that. I'm against people who assume "when stuff kicks off I'll go to Walmart and stock up."

cool gun. but ill stick with a weapon system that can be shot rapidly, accurately, and most of all, affordably. Carry 500 rounds of 308 and see how you feel. (im coping because 762 nato and .30-06 is fucking pricey rn)

I think it’s larue tactical but there’s a cheek riser that’s on springs so it can move with the charging handle if the stock is collapsed. I have no personal experience with it but I think it was the one Christian Craighead had on his rifle maybe check that out if you still want a riser

Primary arms dude is the bomb on prism scope with ACSS reticle. A B5 precision stock might be the answer. Medium for a AR-10, short for a AR-15, & long for a side changing rifle like a zastava m77 308win.

I can only imagine that how the USA decided that .308 was an ideal caliber for a battle rifle was “if it can stop a deer, it can stop a man.”

I got a Palmetto State Armory AR10 with A2 style furniture with fixed stock and fixed front iron sight with a 20" barrel, almost looks like an M16 which is dope. I attached a carry handle from Armalite and ordered a carry handle picatinny rail from Leupold. I am planning to put a TA11 Acog with a crosshair reticle LED (keeping it simple). As well as using 550 cord to tie a girth hitch on the bottom of the buttstock leading to a square knot on top of the buttstock then duck tape the sides of the 550 (retro style) so I can attach my sling to the top of the stock. The reason why I like the carry handle out of anything else is because how easy it is to get to the iron sight without having to take any optics off. If you really want to, you can still have an lpvo or an mpvo on top of that carry handle as well, just make sure you have the proper mount. Everyone has there flavor of how they want to set up their weapons. Don't feel discourage because others might look and think your weird for doing it, they will not be there for you when your life depends on it because at the end of the day its just you and your weapon with those you care about around you.

There is a cheek riser that goes backwards with the charging handle as you pull it for AR style stocks. Can't remember name or price. Your welcome.
@BarnDoor-won5ve9 ай бұрын
For my first ar in 2003, I got a "some brand" cheeck riser at a gun show because i had a ncstar 4x optic mounted on top the carry handle. This riser was made to come up and over extend8ng toward the rifle to allow for more surface area for the face while also leaving a void specifically allowing the changing handle use while the stock was collapsed. It pleases me to see over 20 years later, optic risers the height of an optic on a carry handle and cheek risers are becoming trendy once more after all the trash talked for not having a cool new "flat top receiver and quad rail." 😂😂😂😂
