How’s the restrictions on flying in Miami, did you find any prohibited areas? Planning a trip this year
@BlueMantleFilms5 жыл бұрын
Will you be flying under hobby rules or Part 107? If Part 107, there are a lot of places that are Class G airspace and therefore easy to fly (South Beach and anywhere over the water) and if you get an automated Airspace Authorization that opens up a lot more places around downtown. If hobby rules, you're supposed to notify airports you're flying within five miles of, including, I think, the seaplane port that's between downtown Miami and South Beach, so you'd have a bit of work to do. Since my purposes were commercial (both for this video and for stock footage) I flew under Part 107, and overall it was easier than I think hobby rules would have been since I only needed an airspace authorization and then I could fly most of Miami.

Can u tell me for low light, which mode is better? Full Fov or Hq? Because Full Fov uses the whole 1 inch sensor whearas Hq mode is cropped but high quality, can u tell me which mode is better in low light, we all know larger the sensor better the low light performance, can u tell me that?
@BlueMantleFilms5 жыл бұрын
It's not actually "the larger the sensor, better low light", rather it's "the larger the photosites, generally better low light". You could think of each individual pixel photosite as a bucket...the bigger the bucket, the more light that can be held by it in a given moment. Broadly speaking that means that if you have a larger sensor then you have more space for larger photosites, but it doesn't make it automatic. There are many sensors that have increased resolution rather than better low light performance, so even though the sensor may be bigger, the photosites could be the same size or smaller than other sensors. As far as which is better low light for the Mavic 2 Pro, I haven't done low light tests between FOV and HQ. I tend to think there wouldn't be a big difference between the two since they both use the same sensor and have the same size photosites. The one thing that would likely be different is how noise reduction is processed. With HQ there's a 1-to-1 relationship between photosites and resolution...the image is cropped from the middle of the sensor at exactly 3840 x 2160 pixels. With FOV mode, though, it uses the full width of the sensor and downscales it to 3840 x 2160. This means it could average the noise between adjacent pixels and have slightly less noise than HQ would have. But I doubt it actually makes a significant difference. I also imagine that even if technically the noise is less with FOV, that FOV's decreased overall quality would offset the minor increase in low light performance, and HQ mode would still look better than FOV, even in low light. That said, this is just me theorizing based of what I do know about the sensor and how it processes things. If I really wanted to figure out for sure I'd definitely want to do tests under various conditions.

@BlueMantleFilms6 жыл бұрын
The technique is speed ramping, and in Premiere Pro (what I use) the effect is called Time Remapping. I don't know what the effect would be called in FCPX...I haven't used FCP since they introduced X like ten years ago, so I'm out of the loop with its current features. I do think it has some sort of capability that is similar to Time Remapping though. If you look up "Speed ramping FCPX" I'm sure you'll find a ton of info on it.

@BlueMantleFilms6 жыл бұрын
I most definitely do post processing with the raw images. The automatically-generated videos can look cool, but to really get the best-possible hyperlapses, particularly for color and dynamic range, it's necessary to use the raw. I process the raw images in Lightroom to bring out the colors, then load them into Premiere to run Warp Stabilizer on them. ¡Gracias por suscribirse!

wow thats crazy stable!!!!!! Why they stay P4P is still better?? I cant do anything like that with my P4P.... So jealous for your views in that video... Within 1day?? wow
@BlueMantleFilms6 жыл бұрын
I know! From the past with other drones I’m used to having to either skip a lot of shots because of vibration or having to at the very least use Warp Stabilizer, and in this one I had literally one shot (real-time footage, that is) that I ran Warp Stabilizer on. Now, that said, the hyperlapses I did stabilize in post as part of processing them to be the best I could make them, but that’s different, I think, because those are filmed over 15-20 minutes, so of course they’re going to jitter a little bit. As far as P4P vs. M2P, I really think it’s up to the person. Use whatever you want to use to make content, but then stop complaining about other tools and just go make content! I wanted with this video to show that M2P can be taken seriously as a machine that can be used for professional work. Anyway, thanks for watching the video! I’m obviously very happy with the response it has gotten. :-)

Hi Rehman! In the settings on the DJI Go4 App make sure it's set to 4K recording (if you don't know how to do that, read the manual or -- what I do -- just click around for awhile inside of the app to familiarize yourself with where everything is). Once you know you're recording in 4K, then it's a matter of editing in a 4K-capable program. I know Premiere, Final Cut Pro, and Resolve all work with 4K footage. I've never used Filmora, so I can't speak to that. Good luck!

Overall, I really like this video. Night shots look beautiful. I rate this an A-. The minus is for sound efx being a bit to much for the following reasons. Concept is good, except the natural sound should match the sound that one would hear from the altitude of the shot. For example, the volleyball game, one hears the hit of the volleyball clearly. But it does not match what you would hear from that height, so it can be perceived as being fake. So hearing loud traffic from 400' up and 1,000' away does not really match. In addition, because the music is very full and allows little acoustic space around it, the sound efx fight with the music and therefor are turned up to be heard. It's hard to have both, as they compete. If you want to hear sound efx, turn music down, but don't turn efx up, for instance. All in all, this really is a beautiful piece.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll counter with a few things: I actually did adjust levels and the reverb (making them acoustically softer) based off of the height/distance. volleyball hits in real life are very distinct-sounding, so I actually think that's what you'd hear from 30-ish feet away. And for traffic: I intentionally lowered the levels of traffic on the higher-altitude shots. Most of the shots were taken at between 50-100ft altitude, and it was mostly just the hyperlapses and the few wide city skyline shots that the drone was up closer to 400 feet. So for the lower down shots the levels were a bit higher, but on the higher up shots I lowered the levels and added a Surround Reverb filter, set to "Somewhere Not Here" to make the sounds sound distant. That said (and as I've said in other comments) this is all a learning process for me, so while I did intentionally do some of the things you suggest, I didn't execute them as well as I could have. Yes, finding the balance of music and sfx is definitely something I struggle with. I like to hear both, but I guess I need to learn to prioritize one or the other. I know on my next video I'll be intentionally more subtle in my sound design, because this does seem to be the main critique that this film is getting. Thank you again for your feedback. I'm hoping to continue growing through this process. :-)

Sounds like you will do better on the next video. Regardless, it appears there are a lot of viewers who perceive the effects as "fake." When mixed correctly, you will hear few comments about the sound efx, as people will not even notice they were there. As a sound engineer for film and TV for years, we used to have a saying, "Less is more."

was about to ask how the volleyball sound was captured, fantastic work.

I wouldn't say the natural sound overlay sounded "fake" as much as "misplaced" in some scenes. By your reply you are aware of this issue and have adjusted the audio feel to mitigate this. I am totally with you when you say: "finding the balance of music and sfx is definitely something I struggle with" I am right there with you. I love the footage I get from my M2P finding the right audio to go with the footage is more challenging than people think. All told I love the piece.

I'm not a sound guy or a filmmaker but the sound stood out as weird to me. Like it drew my attention to the "I shouldn't be hearing that sound like this"
