Gillian, I hate that I am about to sound like a simple lovestruck fan but I feel strongly compelled to do so, and so here I go... When you discussed "turning the camera around" It tugged at my heart. My first thought was that I like the camera on you guys. Your natural beauty both inside and out partnered with your trials and tribulations with the boat and the challenges that you and Jonah overcome along with your great film and editing skills makes this an awesome, educating, informative and entertaining channel! If you do choose to "turn the camera around" please, please do not omit you and Jonah. Personally I will miss your beautiful smile garnished with that cute nose and your beautiful eyes that illuminate your sweet spirit and your genuine great soul but it is much more than that. I feel I speak for many when I say that we like watching your videos and this one may have been primarily you and a dangerously cold predicament but it was also one of your best! Please don't go away! We love you out here just the way you are. 💞⛵⛵⛵

You have a real knack for capturing the awe inspiring beauty and simplicity of your surroundings and assembling them into something with a tangible introspective effect. I suspect it would be the same whichever way the camera is pointed and will support you both either way 🙏

Oh the joys of boat life in Canada come the winter season. At least you had a place to go to for night, although if it came down to it you would still survive on the "moon", maybe not comfortable, but still kicking. looks like you may end up with several of these cold snaps this winter. Take care, do what you must to be safe and shiver on.

I was emptying the remnants of a leak from my bilge yesterday and it was 50F and the water was still SO COLD, as were the sides of my boat below the waterline. I can't imagine staying onboard without probably 3 heating sources (diesel heater, some sort of Newport/Refleks stove and probably electric as a last ditch backup) when everything's frozen. Stay warm! :)

Mild compared to When i lived in Edmonton,,,but yea i did not leave the apartment that week, and ice formed on my window sills . The humming birds were discussing why we did not fly south .

Loved the video, thank you! I'm just up the way in Nanaimo and went down to check on my boat during this cold spell and the marina and channel were frozen over, I had never seen that before and was fascinated :D Something you might want to look into, if you don't already have it, is a Caframo True North Heater. It has an anti-freeze mode that will kick the heater on if the temperature gets down to 3 degrees (Celsius). I have one always plugged in over the winter in my Catalina 350 and I don't think I've seen temps lower than 5 degrees when checking on her, even during that cold spell. They are also pretty powerful space heaters, if you were to run two of those when onboard you should easily be able to keep temperatures into the 20's.

That looks really brutal. I think the addition of a diesel heater to your equipment is a good idea.
@LX-0

A diesel heater with external exhaust is a solution to get a boat warm, but not a very cost-efficient one. As most boats are not insulated and lie in cold water, the heat energy drain is enormous and causes high diesel costs. In addition, diesel heaters also consume a lot of electricity for the fans, preheating and control.

It was cold here on the Oregon coast all last week but warm and wet this week. Pleasantly surprised this morning and happy to see you keeping it up. You are my only boating channel. Several have left their boat but I still watch them. Beautiful video....James

Hello Gillian, I like to watch your videos but i usually don't put comments. Today is a bit special, it is sunday, rainy and windy, my ship is bouncing, makes crack, i feel sorry for her pain. That's not the reason for this message...i noticed that you pushed hard to close one rope blocker...when it is open you need to lift with your thumb the little piece under the handle before you close it, the piece with the teeth which push on the rope when it is closed...the blocker will close easely and the holding will be still good. Voilà. Bisous

Here in the Okanogan Valley of Washington state it very cold also. Of course here it was about -26 c. Moving to the Philippines in March permanently my Filipina girlfriend there told me she and 2 of her girlfriends was going to the beach about 2 miles from Cebu. Would like to get my Pacific Seacraft 40 there but it is about 10000 km 7weeks sailing. 7000 islands. Stay warm

Do you have a dehumidifier? Something like a Meaco Zambezi will make a huge improvement to the moisture levels inside the boat. You might find it's the best thing you ever spent money on. 🙂

I'd have definitely lit the fire! Do you have many problems with condensation? Your frozen windows didn't look too bad. It will soon be spring.

I HAVE HAD IDEAS MOST OF MY LIFE AND THINKING OF THOSE BARACLES ON YOUR HULL, I WAS WONDERING IF TARPS COULDN'T BE ATTACHED TO THE HULL WHEN YOUR BOAT IS ANCHORED FOR MONTHS NOT BEING USED. IF SO ALL WOULD BE NEEDED IS TO REMOVE THE TARP AND THOSE BARACLES WOULD ALL COME OFF WITH THAT TARP. THEN ALL YOU'D HAVE TO DO IN SUMMER IS CLEAN OFF THAT TARP. JUST A THOUGHT??

I like your content exactly as is. As a business opportunity, interviewing other boaters is a great idea. Another channel, along the lines of Kirsten Dirksen's Exploring Alternatives would be very interesting, with your sense of style. I imagine your new channel as a mix of Green Renaissance (Reflections of Life) and Exploring Alternatives. Calm, great cinematography...

I LIVE IN MONTREAL AND IN 1998 AS YOU KNOW WE HAD ONE WICKED ICESTORM. A FEW P; RIOR IT WAS MINUS 15-20 AND FREEZING. I BORROWED MY FRIEND'S "KEROSUN" KEROSENE HEATER AND IT WAS SO HOT, THAT I COULD WASH MY CAR OUTSIDE IN OUR TEMPO. AS THEY HAVE A RESERVOIR A FUEL TANK LASTED 14 HOURS. PERHAPS THIS MAY BE A GOOD SOLUTION FOR THIS WINTERTIME ON YOUR BOAT??
@LX-0
@LX-0 Ай бұрын
A kerosene heater is a good source of heat, but not on a boat. The combustion gases sink to the bottom and then continue to accumulate because they cannot escape on a boat with a sealed hull on the bottom. It would kill everyone on board in just one night of running or even a few hours. NEVER EVER TRY THIS!

It is snow ! Or ice, Ha Ha, I don’t think I could handle the cold where they are. I have lived in cold climate, high humidity makes it worse. Dry cold is a little warmer feeling. But still could be miserable. Now I live on the coast and we have a wet climate. I have lived in a desert like climate, but we had snowy winters.
