John that was a very good video with instruction. I thought this back strip could be done after the back was sized and glued. I'm not stressing at all doing this now. Thank you for the instruction, I'm always learning.

After I made my first line with my dremel tool I put masking tape on the edge of my router. I had to add more tape a few times but it pushed my router the distance needed. One side of my line was a little deeper so I used my spoke shave to level it.

Ahh, I get it now, thanks for reply. I searched your channel but couldn’t find any video of replacing an acoustic guitar top. This is an important first step-removing the neck

Great work but you really need hearing protection with that little router. Take if from someone with tinnitus. Once you have it, those screaming, squealing tones will never go away. Ever.

I'd be interesting in learning to do the 45 style abalone purfling like on the sides of the body and such.

+mandolinman2006 that is on the plate. We will do that one but it is not a simple process

John, what bit are you using? down cut spiral? What about gluing...seal with shellac and use CA glue?
@johnhall2795
@johnhall2795 2 жыл бұрын
this is a 3/32 carbide end mill UP CUT here I would not use a down cut and it is a new fresh bit so its sharp. this is not the place for shellac as rosewood takes CA well . if this were a more porous wood like mahogany I would use Duco the more I do this the less I use CA. I will use CA on rosewood because it is compatible with it.

just saw this video.That was great.I didn't see it, but you must have used glue. Also,just how deep of a route would be safe too make? I watch all your videos. I appreciate you taking the time to make these.I'm also at your forum,I'm thinking of doing a kit guitar over the winter months.

John, I've seen other videos of yours wherein you use your inlay cutter. Can you tell us about it? Model/Mfr/Source?

you can find this on blues creek guitars I sell them there. The base was modified to cut flush. If you need it to do this let me know .

I’m trying to build a Stella jumbo 12 20s model right now but I need a tracing! Pls can anyone help me? Also maby a line on perfling

I think Gurian Instruments has some of the purfling. Not sure where you can find a tracing or plans. You will be looking for the older ones when they were made by Oscar Schmidt I think

Thanks for all your informative videos. You set the depth on the cutter, but then cut with the base of cutter on top of rules. Did you compensate for this thickness difference, or ?

If you look close you will see I was using the rulers straight edge I am not on top of the ruler.

How do you set up your router to cut flush along the straight edge...sorry if its a dumb question.
@johnhall2795
@johnhall2795 2 жыл бұрын
this isn't a router this is my inaly tool actually it is simple set up cut so you know where the cutter is working in line with the base and bingo. On this tool my base is flush to the cutter so all I need is the straight edge on the back. I may use tape for tweaking the perfect set up. Also note the cutter direction I do this with a climb cut and do multiple cuts
