Thanks for the clear explanation of the difference between blues and pentatonic scales Greg. The diagrams make it easier to grasp as well. Can’t wait to experiment with them in our band songs.

It’s great that you have a band situation to try all these concepts out in Ruth. You’ll definitely find the pentatonic and Blues scale shapes helpful for throwing in new ideas into your bass lines.

This is the first time I’ve heard anyone explaining the difference between major and minor blues scales. I was confused about that for a long time. Thanks.

Glad to help Mark. I think it’s an important area to get right for bass players.

@@GregsBassShed You succeed every time, Greg. As my concentration isn't good, I have a couple of tunes l use to help me. Riders on The Storm and Soul Finger. Both very different but both with repetitive bass lines. What is your opinion on gaining concentration?
@GregsBassShed2 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, if you haven't already tried it, I find structuring a practice session and getting rid of distractions can help a lot with concentration.

@@GregsBassShed Thanks Greg. I've been busy over the last few weeks, but I've found more time over the weekend to work on concentration, and of course practicing your last lesson on Tommy Shannon's bass.... Excellent lesson by the way.

Another brilliant video Greg. Sunshine of your love is one of my all time favourites. Will you be using your new JC bass in any new videos?
@GregsBassShed2 жыл бұрын
I’m definitely going to use the JC in future videos. Just recorded all the backing tracks for my new Jazz course on it and the bass sounds great!

I have been working on "The Real Me" by the Who. The Ox appears to be playing a C minor pentatonic with an occasional blues note thrown in during some of his runs (I think - Lol). Still a work in progress for me and I am an old dog. It's proving to be a challenging but fun study.

There is nothing quite as satisfying as mastering The Real Me and playing along with the track. Keep going!

Re: dominant 7th chords, what blues scale (major or minor) can be played over them?
@GregsBassShed Жыл бұрын
Hi Robert, you can use both blues scales over a Dominant 7th chord. The minor Blues scale will bring out the Bluesy sound. Also don't forget to use the chord tones - root, major 3rd, 5th, b7.
