There's literally no notes nor even chords listed here...we have nothing to "see" in your video. We're just assumed to "believe" our way into repeating what you're playing?
@Woriviol
@Woriviol 3 жыл бұрын
@@NathanThompsonBlueEyes this is a good way to train your ears and to repeat what you hear as exactly as possible. Because when you improvise you play what you hear in your inner ear. So to practice to repeat what you hear with your ears is a very good approach to improvise.

@@Woriviol You, my friend, do not understand the idea of "improvise."
@Woriviol
@Woriviol 3 жыл бұрын
@@NathanThompsonBlueEyes are you sure? I mean it seems that you're not even able to recognize the key. By the way mainly something like d minor 7 9, so at least you have an orientation about the key. And last but not least nobody is obliged to watch these videos. You complain about a gift which somebody shares in this channel to help other people to get some ideas about fiddling. Instead of complaining it would be nice to appreciate this. If you don't agree then just leave it. In my eyes it's not very polite to complain.

This has been great! Been playing fiddle about 6 1/2 years. Learned by ear with heavy reliance on pentatonic scales (charted on 3x5 cards) to make picking up new tunes easier. So my F key pentatonic kicked in until I realized we were really in its relative minor (Dm). We play whatever whoever steps onto our round, white, plywood "spotlight" wants to play at our weekly Saturday Farmers Market Jam but it's extremely rare to play blues. Lounge standards, yes (often in F). I'm in charge of getting bands for our Church blues festival so I'll dropping serious hints if I get better at this. Who Knows! Maybe I'll be going on the road with my HS buddy Mark Wenner and his Night Hawks! HO HO HO!

Hey Christian! I’m a classically trained violinist- so excited to find you on here. I started playing by ear this Feb. and have been thrown in with several bands and musical shows. I’ve been struggling though with the ability to hear myself. My equipment includes a Schure wireless system, and my electric violin. Many have said an in ear system, also some have said downgrade to just a pickup on my acoustic. Any thoughts on this from a pro? Thank you for any advice! (Any on performing a well)

Great video! Maybe not in the context of this video but wanted to ask you, Christian, what do you think about the Aebersold method? Are the books suitable for violin?
@ChristianHowesViolin
@ChristianHowesViolin 2 жыл бұрын
The backing tracks are great to play to. The main value of aebersold in my opinion is having the backing tracks which are played by real people. I recommend buying one set of tunes from them and playing to the backing tracks especially if there is a certain set of tunes you want to work to. They tend to be very jazz specific so only do it if that’s what you want to work on. And then you can get support from someone like me or another teacher in how to work on them or getting assessment in your progress. Thanks Kalina.

I'm trying to learn blues improvising. I have zero information about improvising , if improvising using A minor blues scale, must the Backing Track be in A minor too? Or is it fine to improvise using any scale on any Backing Track?
