I assume the answer is well compressed soil/gravel, but what prevents the higher concrete from sinking in towards the porch and basically uprooting like a tree? Wouldn’t take much for there to be a slight slope running towards the house. I’m asking because I want to do something similar at my place…

If you got soft soil or high underground water level , the best way will be installed sonotube footing with 2x2 feet base and stabilized ground.

Nice job bud only thing different I did all three risers with a measured the same height your bottom step looks about 2 inches taller and then you got a split that you had to cut under the first course shame you couldn’t of made everything work out to where you had the same rise nice jogging my blue stone is real good
