In case you are not aware, home assistant has the ability to determine which Bluetooth devices an Android phone is connected to. You can use this information to trigger home automations. I use home assistant to trigger certain automations when my exercise headphones are connected to my phone. Also, Bluetooth automations don't have to be limited to just a phone connection. If you use something like ESPresense you can detect if a Bluetooth device is turned on.

My Home Assistant knows as soon as I’m home because I have a BLE beacon associated with my home zone. The moment my phone detects the beacon, it forces the companion app to check in with HA. This happens just before I pull into my driveway. I could make this happen sooner by putting the beacon outside of the house. I don’t have to touch my phone. And it even works if I’m on my motorcycle or not driving my Tesla.

This is exactly what I was looking for and actually helped with the whole time automation that I've been scowering Reddit on all day. So win win. Would definitely love to see how some of the more complex automations are created -- like "if both wife and i are home then..." or "turn on bathroom LEDs but only in the middle of the night with motion" type stuff!! Love it keep it up!

I have my shortcuts on my iOS adjust a trigger in Home Assistant and then have that run against the time if day. This is also useful for some use cases where my wife and I are using the same device.

I need help with this one. When I connect my phone with a bluetooth headphones my TV turns off. The problem is I need to open my app so that it can send the state of my 'sensor.phone_bluetooth_connedtion' How to do it even when my home assistant app is not open?

Hi Reed, have you any ideas on how to clean up messy Alexa routines, devices and same for smartthings. Every time you come up with something interesting, I always like to try it I now have pages and pages of inactive, routines or equipment that no longer exists.

I recently had to do this! I just spent like 30 minutes deleting everything manually. It kind of sucked but it was so much better after. I don't think there is a way besides nuking everything and starting over.

So which home automation system do you primarily use, HA, or HomeKit?

HA in the back end for all the automations and integrations. I pull in only the necessary devices into HomeKit and I'm using that as my front end. Almost everything runs locally that way and it seems like the best. I'm planning on making a more in depth video on it soon.

When you say HomeKit on the front end, do you mean specifically you're using the HK app for control of devices you want to be able to control while using HA for the more complicated things?

I have a Pixel phone but it just comes down to time. I don't have time to set up all the automations on every platform out there or I would never be able to make videos. Also, this is the second channel so the format is different. I will try and add my family in these more though if possible.
