Using a typical 3-band equalizer on complex mixes or instruments

Great explanation... I'm also running an E-drum type set up (a Singular Sound Beat-Buddy) running into Mackie ProFX12v3 mixer with the same issue, just 3 EQ knobs and a 1 knob compressor. It doesn't sound terrible with all set to 12 o'clock but it's a little lacking. I'll give this a try and see what happens. Thanks
