Listened to this on my studio monitors... heard EVERYTHING. and it was absolutely crispy!!!! This would make a bad ass room mic and a mic for sound grabbing outside!

It makes a great feild recording mic. I am also updating it with a different "Mid" capsule. Glad you liked it!

Found your channel the other day by a recommendation from a friend. Love the recordings and microphone building tutorials! Thanks for taking the time to share your builds!

Would it be possible to wire a multi-position switch to select which capsules work? With a switch one could select only the single middle cardioid, the dual side, or all three in the MS layout? I'm assuming this would require a dual channel board so the mid could be on Channel 1, and the two sides on Channel 2. Great video and build!

These are all possible but complicate the design. My goal is to make the microphones simple, and do all the extra stuff in post with a DAW.

Hi! Does this mic build work in high spl situations like drums? Specially as a room mic setup, I like my room miking in M/S. And if you could suggest an even darker sounding capsule for this setup it would be amazing! Thank you!
@SoundSleuth4 ай бұрын
If you pad the capsules with small capacitors, yes! I am in process of redoing this and will actually record drums with four of them this month.

Very interesting video. Do you have and DIY builds for shotgun like microphones? The physics are vastly different with the tube design and I would love to learn more on DIY solutions.

JLI has two new caps, 160A11UC680 and 1660NB-38 (Uni and 8). Perfect combination for MS microphone. But they have FET in them, does that mean they can't be used with your preamps?
@SoundSleuth2 жыл бұрын
I will have to check these out! but yes, if there is an internal Fet, they wont work with my OPA circuit as designed. But they will work with Simple P48 and straight into a PIP circuit.

great vid! elementary question probably, but are the side capsules in stereo? can't really tell even with headphones as the snapping overlaps.

I am waiting from day to day for the delivery of two Alice OPA - Two-Channel, but I want to assemble with Dachmanaudio membranes. But for some reason I didn't even think about such a version, it's very cool and curious. I will definitely try it over time, especially after I saw that one of the readers on instructables compiled the XY version. By the way, the question is, is the phantom power on the Alice OPA - Dual-Channel + DC-DC Hex Inverter PCB supplied to both channels or only to one and in the version with electret capsules (MS ver) to both channels or only to the Middle?
@SoundSleuth3 жыл бұрын
If I understand your ask: the Hex Inverter can power two capsules easily. If one is electret then it doesn’t need the bias voltage. So leave that not connected
@fastunovaudio3 жыл бұрын
@@SoundSleuth I meant something else. Using one K 87 type multipater membrane in conjunction with Alice ONE - Dual-Channel + DC-DC Hex Inverter at the output, we actually have a signal from two sides of one capsule and we already form a radiation pattern by summing both signals. So, on the mixer, do I have +48 to serve on each channel or on one?
@fastunovaudio3 жыл бұрын
@@SoundSleuth The same is true when using electret capsules, but only with Alice ONE - Dual-Channel (without DC-DC Hex Inverter) +48 to feed on both channels or on one. For example, I have a Sennheiser 418s, this is an MS microphone and there is phantom power supplied only to the Middle

Please share. Why you use 3 mics on 2 Chennal.
@SoundSleuth Жыл бұрын
Two of the capsules are wired in series to create the "Side" signal. Thus, there are two outputs

@@SoundSleuth if we take in series than it will b (2 mics( in series )in one channel and one mic in other channel L/R are in same output? or one more and one less. If you don't mind please share schematic diagram for this. Appreciated for your cooperation

Check Mic Boosters. They are in UK. Not the best but better than US shipping.
