Second the recommendation of Everhard's Worshiptainment. Easy read, despite being an Indie title.

I read Teem's book on Tyndale years ago and absolutely LOVED it. It gave me such an appreciation for William Tyndale.

I read the Surprising Genius of Jesus and was blown away by it! I can't say enough good things. I own Tyndale but haven't read it yet and have added the others to my TBR. I always have reading goals but am focused more on reading quality (although I need to pull back a little and focus on Greek 😅). I read quite a few spiritual books and this one was one of the few I rated highly and recommended to others. I look forward to all the comments people make. Just yesterday I spoke with a friend about this and she recommended "Forming: A Work of Grace" by David Takle.. it was available in Kindle Unlimited so I started it. I'm not far enough in to recommend but it's captured my attention. Misreading the Bible with Individualist Eyes is a great read and in a similar vein to Surprising Genius of Jesus. I have to stop now...🤣

You have a crazy reading habit. I haven't read the Takle book, but I'll take a look at it.

The Surprising Genius of Jesus has been on my to-read list for a while. I've been waiting for a price drop/deal to get it.

Thanks for the good book recommendations! Much appreciated! We named our sons after Tyndale, Rogers, and Charnock! 😀

I am in the midst of reading" The Greatness of The Kingdom " by Alva J McClain. I highly recommend this book out of all the theological books I read in the last 40 years. I would like to read on Tyndale in the near future. Thanks for the recommendations.
@bma15 күн бұрын
I've dabbled in McClain but not read all of it. I also need to finish Vlach's He Will Reign Forever at some point.

Many pastors fail to understand the purpose of the parables. They fail to see what Jesus was emphasizing. McClain clearly shown what and where we might have missed. Thanks again.

My reading list for the year - 3 books by N.T. Wright (the "Of God" books) followed by his biography of Paul and his book on Romans 8). Along with that, a list of 12 found in Celebration of Discipline by Foster. He lists 60 books he calls spiritual masterworks and outlines a program where you spend a month with each of the top 12. The 12 are mostly historical works and include things like The Life of St. Anthony by Athanasius and Interior Castle by Teresa of Àvila.
@bma20 күн бұрын
Thats interesting. Foster's and Willard who he was heavily influenced by are both influenced by the mystics. Athanasius is not a mystic, but Teresa of Avila certainly is. Enjoy!

Johnvast - Since when does God and Belial live in the same theological camp of the TRUE word of God? "Mysticism' is a lie from the enemy and wrapped in a 'christian rainbow'. Ask The Savior to reveal the truth. Do a little research into mysticism, it's not biblical and is a deception in the guise of a 'spiritual experience' brought on by 'YOUR' devotion to the 'mystical experience'. Read by all means but be aware of the snare! Anyone can have a spiritual experience, but is it from the Holy Spirit or a deceitful spirit? It was Ignatius of Loyola that wrote the first book of "Spiritual Exercises' and Foster & Willard that made shore the spiritual deception continued. Please do a research on these names, especially Ignatius of Loyola and what he stood for.

I am working through four books right now. I am almost finished with "The Sovereignty of God" by A.W. Pink; I am halfway through one you recommended last year, "From Plato to Christ" by Louis Markos; and two bigger studies (slower): "The Existence and Attributes of God" (two volumes) by Stephen Charnock (the section on the Goodness of God is worth the set); and finally, "Biblical Theology, A Canonical Thematic & Ethical Approach" by Andreas Kostenberger and Gregory Goswell. I like your videos, and eventually watch them all :) Thank you.

Awesome. That one on Biblical Theology sounds interesting! Thanks!

Thanks for the recommendations. I think, out of this list, I'm most interested in reading Everhard along with Chapell for comparison.

I challenge you all to read these two books: "Paul and the Resurrection of Israel" by Jason Staples and "The Lamb of the Free" by Andrew Rillera. Top notch scholarship in both books. Consider yourself undereducated if you haven't read them.

The Teems book on Tyndale doesn't appear to be self-published, at least in the United States. It is published in the USA by Thomas Nelson. (I'm into publishing; particularly, Christian publishing.) I own it but haven't read it yet; you're encouraging me to do so. Thanks!
@bma15 күн бұрын
Cool! Maybe I got it wrong... it isn't easily available in all markets it seems. Thanks for the update!

I added Tyndall to my list. Currently reading Mike Heiser’s books. What’s your thoughts on that author? Also, do you (or anyone else) use GoodReads. I use it to track my reading but haven’t use the social part. Anyone else find this useful.
@bma15 күн бұрын
I'm not a Heiser fan (I assume that is who you mean). He has some good scholarship, but in my opinion he leans into supernaturalism a little too much in some areas.Its been a while since I read him though.

So how much time do you spend reading each day if you read one a week as an average? Is that a discipline for you or are you just more of a reader (or both?)
@bma15 күн бұрын
I don't have a set amount of time. Sometimes I don't read at all, other times I'll spend several hours a day reading (e.g. when I'm on holiday). It evens out to about a book a week.

I struggle to read books. I've wanted to, but I've been stuck in "Honor, Patronage, Kinship, and Purity" by DeSilva, and "Recovering our Sanity" by Michael Horton for the last year.
@bma20 күн бұрын
The deSilva book is tough. There are probably easier books to start with. My recommendation is to make reading into a habit, start with easy to read books, or if you want to take on harder books, take 10-15 minutes and read what you can.

@@bma I am almost finished with it, and am doing a book review on it for my churches NT class, as this topic is one of my favorites. Are there any easier NT culture books you would recommend?
