I am British but lived in Australia and have owned a Wolsey 24/80 3 gear manual 6 cylinder, a Morris 1500, and an Austin 1800 Mk2. My father owned a Austin A30, Morris Oxford, Wolsey 6/110 and an Austin Princess, possibly others.

That ADO 16 convertible stopped my clock! I live in California, and I have had five ado16 now, and been reading about them for ten years or so, and have never even heard about this. That is really cool. That's the one I'd drive home. Well, with a big boat and stuff...I've recently discovered your channel, and I'm really enjoying it. Thanks for doing this thing...

Thanks for that - enjoyed it. Some fantastic survivors. We had a whole range of BMC cars in the family when I was a child and as a young driver - Marinas, 1100s, Morris Minors, Dolomites, Landcrabs, Allegros and my second car was a Dolomite 1850. I used to thrash many of the later cars as hire cars for business! 🙂

Wow, didn't know some of those cars at the start existed despite the familiar looks. I've seen plenty of column shift transmissions before but the dash mounted shifter on the right hand side is new in me. Interesting swing a pre facelift Monty and in VDP trim too. Looking back it seems the press liked these as much as the equivalent Ford or Vauxhall though Austin's large car seemed to fall out of favour with the public for while. The river 600 looked so fresh compared to Rovers R8 and 800 series at the time. I've never seen an Austin Gypsy before From memory we're those 5 speed maxi using a cable operated gear linkage? They were definitely cutting edge at the time. Love an MGB GT, especially early ones. What are the odds, I've just featured one of those 30th anniversary mini's but in the cherry red colour. The pre facelift SD 1 dash was indeed suited to both LHD and RHD. The instrument binacle could be switched to either side and bite the air vent on the passenger side that fills the hole for a steaming column. Palmer did also design the pathfinder and the door handles integrated into the brightwork seems to be his signature design feature. Very stylish. My dad had a red base model metro but was an early one on a W plate. That BMC mobile workshop vehicle is so cool. Speke plant built the first TR7's and when not in strike the cars that left were if poor quality. Later cars were much better but by that point the damage was done. I still think a sprint production model and a restyle of the rear end for the 80's could have been very successful. My grandad had two SD3 213's. I think the honda may have been a 12 valve engine which seemed pretty advanced alongside the home grown 1.6 litre engine. I've never seen the two door ADO 16 but it looks great. Wow, that MGB GT special looks very interesting and a great colour. The early Rover 800 sterling looks very purposeful with its very 80's sharp creases, definately back in fashion. Another superb video Simon. 👍

Hi Simon, great video although I did spot a couple of minor mistakes, the black mini that you described as a mini 40 was actually a mini 30 and the red dolomite that you described as a sprint was actually a dolomite 1850 HL, although it did have sprint wheels on it which is probably why you thought it was a sprint 👍

Beat me to it. I think it's a 1500 though. Still , if I owned a 1500 I would stick Sprint alloys on it too !. Great video. Talk about a trip down memory lane. Sad to think we no longer have a mainstream model car industry when you compare how things were to how they are. Some proper " unicorns" in there too. Enjoyed that.

I wonder why in 1985 would anyone shell out for a VDP Montego, when they could have had a Rover for the same money?
